Bollywood box-office report of the week : 12 may 2010

The coming Friday will see the last moment postponement, the Priyadarshan directed BUMM BUMM BOLE along with Anupam Kher's ADMISSIONS OPEN and the Rajpal Yadav, Nargis and the The Great Khali starrer KUSHTI. It is but obvious that none of the three releases are going to make much of an impact at the box-office, though the Darsheel Safary starrer BUMM BUMM BOLE may benefit somewhat from the expected positive reviews.

Last Friday's two releases, Yash Raj's Parmeet Sethi directed BADMAASH COMPANY and Gurinder Chadha's IT'S A WONDERFUL AFTERLIFE (as HAI MAR JAWAAN! in Hindi), fared expectedly. The Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma starrer BADMAASH COMPANY was extraordinary in Maharashtra and Gujarat and was good to average at other places. Given the 27-28 crore limited budget (including cost of print and promotion), the opening will see its the producers and all-world distributors Yash Raj Films smiling all the way to the bank. On the other hand IT'S A WONDERFUL AFTERLIFE was fair at a few places but the Hindi dubbed version has been rejected. However in the Overseas BADMAASH COMPANY has been rejected grossing ? 54,699 from UK during its opening weekend (7-9 May).

Meanwhile the Sajid & Sajid venture HOUSEFULL has done excellent business in the first week and trade says that it will yield good profits. A good reason for that (apart from the collections) is that HOUSEFULL has been released with more than 750 UFO digital screens, a new record for the company. Interestingly the digital prints of HOUSEFULL outnumber the analog prints! The film collected 5.75 crores from Bombay (collections from 50 cinemas unreceived), 2.30 crores from Ahmedabad, 30.20 lakhs from Baroda, 25.60 lakhs from Surat, 9.50 lakhs from Nadiad, 3 lakhs from Vapi, 6.35 lakhs from from Valsad, 7.35 lakhs each from Bharuch and Bardoli, 4 lakhs from Patan, 56 lakhs from Rajkot, 12.75 lakhs from Jamnagar, 16.65 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 3.30 lakhs from Porbandar, 2.25 lakhs from Botad, 1.50 lakhs from Dwarka, 3 lakhs from Morbi, 2 lakhs from Surendranagar, 3.65 lakhs from Junagarh, 1.20 lakhs each from Veraval and Mahuva, 5.75 lakhs from Bhuj, 8.75 lakhs from Gandhidham, 3 lakhs from Adipur, 57 lakhs from Pune, 8.15 lakhs from Solapur, 5.15 lakhs from Sangli, 21 lakhs from Nasik, 30 lakhs from Goa, 5.50 lakhs from Hubli, 11.60 lakhs from Belgaum, 5 crores from Delhi city, 62.50 lakhs from Noida, 50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 42 lakhs from Kanpur, 67 lakhs from Lucknow, 30 lakhs from Agra, 13.60 lakhs from Allahabad, 16.10 lakhs from Meerut, 4 lakhs from Bareilly, 7.15 lakhs from Aligarh, 3.50 lakhs from Mathura, 96 lakhs from Gurgaon, 42.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 32 lakhs from Chandigarh, 7 lakhs from Zirakpur, 7.05 lakhs from Bhatinda, 14 lakhs from Ludhiana, 9.65 lakhs from Amritsar, 6.65 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 4.75 lakhs from Panipat, 3.10 lakhs from Pathankot, 1.30 crores from Calcutta, 2.60 lakhs from Darjeeling, 8.25 lakhs from Siliguri, 3 lakhs from Gangtok, 8.25 lakhs from Guwahati, 51.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 15.20 lakhs from Jabalpur, 7.35 lakhs from Amravati, 6 lakhs from Akola, 2.10 lakhs from Dhule, 25 lakhs from Raipur, 3.15 lakhs from Wardha, 3 lakhs from Durg, 4.60 lakhs from Chandrapur, 3 lakhs from Sagar, 3.25 lakhs from Khandwa, 67.50 lakhs from Indore, 3 lakhs from Sehore, 13 lakhs from Gwalior, 27 lakhs from Bhopal, 2.75 lakhs from Ujjain, 2.50 lakhs from Dewas, 95 lakhs from Jaipur(collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 11.70 lakhs from Jodhpur, 9 lakhs from Bikaner, 13 lakhs from Ajmer, 18.30 lakhs from Kota, 2 lakhs from Sriganganagar, 1.35 crores from Hyderabad, 2.20 lakhs from Warangal, 21.65 lakhs from Aurangabad, 3.50 lakhs from Nanded, 2 lakhs from Parbhani, 71.15 lakhs from Bangalore, 11.60 lakhs from Mangalore, 3.50 lakhs from Davangere, 6.65 lakhs from Vishakhapatnam, 9.30 lakhs from Madras, 1.75 lakhs from Coimbatore and 1.75 lakhs from Kochi. Netting around 46.70 crores in its opening week, HOUSEFULL is already an above average fare and is likely to improve its status. The film has done good business in the Overseas grossing ? 546,363 from UK and $1,048,019 from US up to the second weekend (7-9 May).

Moving on Maverick Productions Private Limited Presentation, the Anuuj Saxena and Udita Goswami starrer CHASE has pathetic collections of 10 lakhs from Bombay(collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 3.15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Lucknow. It is but a formality to say that with around 40-45 lakhs in its opening week from India, CHASE is a washout.

Concluding this week's box-office report with the Milind Ukey directed PAATHSHAALA; the film collected 5 lakhs from Bombay, 1.30 lakhs from Ahmedabad and 1.65 lakhs from Delhi city. The film added another 25 lakhs and has ended its run with around 11.75 crores in three weeks from India and can at best be rated as a below average fare, taking into account the non-theatrical revenues. The Nana Patekar, Shahid Kapoor (extended appearance) and Ayesha Takia starrer PATHSHAALAA has also been rejected in the Overseas grossing barely ?50,000 from UK, at the end of its run.
