With GHAJINI being the last major release, almost three weeks ago, finally another biggie, in the form of CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA, releases this Friday. Naturally, no other major venture has decided to take on the Mithun Chakraborty, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ranvir Shorey and Liu Gordon starrer and it will have an open week. With Akshay returning back to his first love, martial arts, laced with an under current of comedy, CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is expected to take a flying start at the ticket window. The film is likely to have a good opening week haul, both in India and Overseas.
All the releases of last week failed to garner even a decent initial. The first of these, Shravan Films International and Bollywood Calling’s, KAASH… MERE HOTE, released at 14 cinemas of Bombay-Thane (thru STV Networks Pvt. Ltd.), was off to a weak start, the opening was pathetic in the rest of India. The second release, Artesian Media & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., Mixed Blood Cinema, Varun Khanna Productions and Digiquest India Pvt. Ltd.’s BAD LUCK GOVIND, released at 23 cinemas of Bombay-Thane (by Artesian Media & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.) had a poor start to show. Trade predicts a bleak future for both the films, but we feel with a more sustained publicity, over a longer period, BAD LUCK GOVIND could have fared better at select multiplexes. The last release of the week was Ramesh Sippy Entertainment’s English film, THE PRESIDENT IS COMING, and it saw a limited release (thru Shringar Films) at about 18 cinemas of Bombay-Thane. The film also had a poor opening and will face limitations at the box-office due to poor promotion.CHECK OUT : Movie Review – Bad Luck Govind
