Bollywood box-office report of the week : 14 september 2011

This week will see the release of Pankaj Kapur's Shahid-Sonam starrer; MAUSAM (provided all hurdles are cleared). The music of the film is popular and the hype quite decent. And though the film will not take a big start, it is expected to pick up as the days progress. The second release of the week, the well made RIVAAZ will surely appeal to it's target audience.

As expected and predicted, Yash Raj Films' Katrina Kaif, Imran Khan and Ali Zafar starrer, MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN, embarked on a good start (average at single screens) and improved further during the weekend. The film netted an impressive 25.60 crores during the opening weekend. MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN has also done well in the overseas grossing ?175,000 in the UK and $400,000 from US during the opening weekend (9-11 September). The 25 crore film is already in to the profit zone for YRF, given the substantial earnings from the non-theatrical rights.

The super run of Salman Khan's BODYGUARD yielded handsome shares for all concerned during the extended (9 days) opening week itself. The film collected 6.30 crores from Bombay (collections from 57 cinemas unreceived), 3 crores from Ahmedabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 44 lakhs from Surat, 1.50 crores from Baroda, 20 lakhs from Bharuch, 12 lakhs from Palanpur, 1 crore from Rajkot, 23 lakhs from Jamnagar, 36.55 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 16.50 lakhs from Gandhidham, 80 lakhs from Pune, 12.25 lakhs from Solapur, 42 lakhs from Nasik, 21.25 lakhs from Goa, 6.85 crores from Delhi city, 81 lakhs from Noida, 1.15 crore from Ghaziabad, 1.10 crore from Kanpur, 1.70 crore from Lucknow, 55 lakhs from Agra, 40.35 lakhs from Allahabad, 20 lakhs from Aligarh, 1.10 crore from Gurgaon, 22.35 lakhs from Faridabad, 11.30 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 18 lakhs from Panipat, 37.35 lakhs from Chandigarh, 22.35 lakhs from Jalandhar, 15.35 lakhs from Amritsar, 18.75 lakhs from Ludhiana, 12 lakhs from Ambala, 3.15 crores from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 4.50 lakhs from Darjeeling, 16 lakhs from Siliguri, 12.75 lakhs from Guwahati, 85 lakhs from Nagpur, 57.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 46.35 lakhs from Raipur, 1.05 crore from Indore (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 15.50 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 80 lakhs from Bhopal, 1.70 crore from Jaipur (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 34 lakhs from Jodhpur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 32 lakhs from Ajmer, 13.75 lakhs from Bikaner, 34.65 lakhs from Kota, 20.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 2.30 crores from Hyderabad, 41.75 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 13 lakhs from Latur, 7.50 lakhs from Nanded, 2.65 lakhs from Parbhani, 15 lakhs from Gulbarga, 1 crore from Bangalore, 16.50 lakhs from Mangalore, 10 lakhs from Vijaywada, 9 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 5.10 lakhs from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived). With a huge 112.50 crores , BODYGUARD is a super hit. The film has done superbly in the Overseas grossing ? 1,205,000 from UK and $1,557,000 till the second weekend (9-11 September). Trade predicts a 40 crore final profit for the worldwide distributor, Reliance Entertainment.

Meanwhile the Pakistani film BOL could not pick up after a disastrous start due to lack of promotion, face value and BODYGUARD! The film collected 40 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 15 cinemas unreceived), 10.35 lakhs from Ahmedabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2.65 lakhs from Baroda, 3.60 from Pune, 1 lakh from Goa, 26 lakhs from Delhi city, 4.65 lakhs from Noida, 2.35 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.20 lakhs from Kanpur, 3 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.25 lakhs from Allahabad, 5.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3.50 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.20 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.15 lakhs from Raipur, 2 lakhs from Indore, 1.35 lakhs from Bhopal, 3.50 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 4 lakhs from Hyderabad and 6.50 lakhs from Bangalore. BOL has netted around 1.75 crores from India and has flopped.

The fate of Anurag Kashyap's THAT GIRL IN YELLOW BOOTS was obvious after the poor start. Needless to add it may have done somewhat better had it not released in close proximity of BODYGUARD. A handful of cinemas in big cities did see some patronage but it was negligible. The film collected 45 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2 lakhs from Baroda, 4.50 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Goa, 24 lakhs from Delhi city, 4.70 lakhs from Noida, 1.10 lakhs from Kanpur, 1 lakh from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Allahabad, 7.65 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.30 lakhs from Chandigarh, 6.50 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1.10 lakhs from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Indore, 1.30 lakhs from Jaipur, 4.25 lakhs from Hyderabad and 9.20 lakhs from Bangalore. Netting 1.50 crores from India in the first week, THAT GIRL IN YELLOW BOOTS has failed.

Concluding with Rohit Shetty's Ajay Devgn starrer, the super duper hit, SINGHAM, the film added another 50 lakhs and has netted an amazing 98 crores in seven weeks from India.
