This Wednesday will witness the release of Akshay Kumar's Anthony D'Souza directed BOSS. The lavishly mounted 'masala' action film is all set to embark on a very good, if not bumper start. Given the Eid-ul-Azha holiday(s) and the 5-day extended weekend, BOSS is likely to accumulate a good haul during the mentioned period. The promotion, music, and Akshay Kumar's larger than life portrayal has ensured that BOSS will be the superstar's best opener since ROWDY RATHORE. Also releasing this Friday is the critically acclaimed, SHAHID.
Last Friday saw the release of the Faraz Haider directed Sharman-Soha starrer WAR CHHOD NA YAAR and ASR Media's BAAT BANN GAYI. As expected it was WAR CHHOD NA YAAR which was the front runner by a big margin netting a creditable 5 crore (to be validated) during the opening weekend. Unfortunately it now has to make way for Akshay Kumar's BOSS, from Wednesday itself. The other release of the week, BAAT BANN GAYI, is a washout.
Moving on Abhinav Kashyap's Ranbir Kapoor starrer, BESHARAM, failed to build on a good opening day as it collected 2.50 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 75 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 21.50 lakhs from Surat, 17.15 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 70 lakhs from Pune, 12.75 lakhs from Nasik, 7.65 lakhs from Goa, 3.65 lakhs from Belgaum, 3.50 crore from Delhi city, 41 lakhs from Noida, 42 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 22.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 77 lakhs from Lucknow , 12 lakhs from Agra, 22.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 4.65 lakhs from Aligarh, 50.75 lakhs from Gurgaon, 10.55 lakhs from Faridabad, 4.35 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 8.50 lakhs from Panipat, 23.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 14 lakhs from Jalandhar, 7.50 lakhs from Amritsar, 13.75 lakhs from Ludhiana, 5 lakhs from Bhatinda, 3.25 lakhs from Ambala, 3.75 lakhs from Jammu, 65 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Darjeeling, 8 lakhs from Siliguri, 5.75 lakhs from Dhanbad, 4.15 lakhs from Ranchi, 9 lakhs from Bhubhaneshwar, 6.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 22.75 lakhs from Nagpur, 25.75 lakhs from Jabalpur, 22 lakhs from Raipur, 35 lakhs from Indore (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 8.50 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 20 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 85 lakhs from Jaipur, 15 lakhs from Jodhpur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 15.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 11 lakhs from Bikaner, 14.75 lakhs from Kota, 14.65 lakhs from Udaipur, 35 lakhs from Hyderabad, 8.65 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 60 lakhs from Bangalore, 4 lakhs from Mangalore, 2.55 lakhs from Vijayawada, 4.25 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 4.50 lakhs from Madras and 3.50 lakhs from Kochi. Netting close to 57 crore during the opening week, BESHARAM has failed at the box-office, though the losses will not be huge due to the overseas and non-theatrical rights. BESHARAM has also disappointed in the overseas (for a Ranbir Kapoor starrer) grossing ? 345,000 from UK and $570,000 from the US till the second weekend (10-12 October).
Meanwhile Rajkumar Santoshi's PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO is ending it's fair run as it collected 15 lakhs from Bombay, 2.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Baroda, 3.75 lakhs from Pune, 5 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.75 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Gurgaon, 5 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.25 lakhs from Indore, 20 lakhs from Jaipur and 2 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 1 crore , the Shahid Kapoor starrer, PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO, has netted 39 crore in three weeks from India and is an average fare, as most non-theatrical rights have already fetched handsome prices. PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO has disappointed in the overseas grossing ? 153,000 from UK and $78,000 from the US.
Moving on, Ritesh Batra's Irrfan-Nawazuddin starrer, THE LUNCHBOX, continues to impress (barring Ahmedabad) at the multiplexes by collecting 40 lakhs from Bombay, 3.75 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Surat, 1.50 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 15 lakhs from Pune, 25 lakhs from Delhi city, 5 lakhs from Noida, 1.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.15 lakhs from Lucknow, 5.75 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.25 lakhs from Chandigarh, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Nagpur, 1.75 lakhs from Indore, 2.15 lakhs from Jaipur, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 15 lakhs from Bangalore and 1.50 lakhs from Kochi. Concluding with Indra Kumar's Vivek, Ritesh and Aftab starrer, GRAND MASTI, the film added another 2 crore during its latest run, netting 92 crore in four weeks from India and is a super duper hit.
