Bollywood box-office report of the week : 18 july 2013

This Friday will see three major releases, the Nikhil Advani directed D-DAY, Kiran Rao's SHIP OF THESEUS (Hinglish) and the Prabhudheva directed RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA. The front runner is likely to be Tips' Girish Kumar-Shruti Hassan starrer RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA mainly due to good promotion and the hit music, followed by Rishi Kapoor's D-DAY, with SHIP OF THESEUS appealing to the 'intelligent' audience and critics!

Last Friday saw the release of Viacom 18 Motion Pictures' Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG. After a good first day (especially at the multiplexes), the film witnessed a day wise escalation during the opening weekend, netting a good 33-34 crore (including Thursday paid previews). The film has also maintained beautifully during the weekdays. The Farhan-Sonam starrer, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, has also impressed in the overseas (good in the US) grossing ?90,000 from UK and $650,000 from the US during the opening weekend (12-14 July).

All the other releases of the same week (SHORTS, SIXTEEN and BOYSS TOH BOYSS HAIN) have failed to strike a chord with the audience.

Netting around 24 crore during the opening week from India, LOOTERA will have to show good legs during the second week to emerge a safe project, though good recovery from non-theatrical rights will help its cause. LOOTERA has done reasonably in the overseas (good in US) grossing ?115,000 from UK and $551,000 from the US till the second weekend (12-14 July).

While on UTV Motion Pictures' Emraan-Vidya starrer, GHANCHAKKAR, the film crashed in the second week as it collected 30 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.65 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.75 lakhs from Surat, 1 lakh from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 4 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Nasik, 1.15 lakhs from Goa, 15 lakhs from Delhi city, 3.20 lakhs from Noida, 2.25 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 2.65 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.25 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.15 lakhs from Chandigarh, 6.50 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 1.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Indore, 2.15 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Hyderabad and 7 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 2 crore GHANCHAKKAR has netted 31 crore in two weeks from India and is a below average fare. The film has also failed in the overseas grossing ?144,000 from UK and $203,000 from the US.

Moving on, the Sonam, Dhanush and Swara starrer, RAANJHANAA, saw another rocking week as the film collected 85 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 22.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 4 lakhs from Surat, 6.15 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 4 lakhs from Rajkot, 20 lakhs from Pune, 6 lakhs from Nasik, 1.25 lakhs from Goa, 1.25 lakhs from Belgaum, 75 lakhs from Delhi city, 14.65 lakhs from Noida, 7 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 10.25 lakhs from Kanpur, 15.75 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.65 lakhs from Agra, 3.15 lakhs from Allahabad, 13.65 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.35 lakhs from Faridabad, 3.15 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1 lakh from Ludhiana, 17.50 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.75 lakhs from Siliguri, 2.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 2 lakhs from Ranchi, 4.25 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 2.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 7 lakhs from Nagpur, 5.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 6.50 lakhs from Raipur, 12.50 lakhs from Indore, 3 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 8.15 lakhs from Bhopal, 20 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.55 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.50 lakhs from Bikaner, 4.50 lakhs from Kota, 2.25 lakhs from Udaipur, 25 lakhs from Hyderabad, 5 lakhs from Aurangabad, 30 lakhs from Bangalore, 2.15 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 2.25 lakhs from Madras and 1.50 lakhs from Kochi. With another 5.50 crore RAANJHANAA has netted 58 crore in in three weeks from India and is a super hit. The film has also done very well in the overseas (good in US) grossing ?150,000 from the UK and $890,000 from the US till the fourth weekend (12-14 July).

Meanwhile the Pulkit, Ali and Vishakha venture, FUKREY, managed another fruitful week as the film collected 20 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.55 lakhs from Surat, 1 lakh from Baroda, 2.15 lakhs from Pune, 55 lakhs from Delhi city, 7.50 lakhs from Noida, 3.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3.15 lakhs from Lucknow, 8.75 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2.55 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Indore, 3.50 lakhs from Jaipur and 2 lakhs from Bangalore. With another 2 crore FUKREY has netted 35 crore in four weeks from India and is a hit plus.
