This Friday has a strong line up in the form of Dibaker Banerjee's LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan's LAHORE and the Vikram Bhatt directed SHAAPIT.
One feels that despite the lean phase, where the evening entertainment consists of just IPL, it will be LSD that will emerge the winner thanks to good curiosity factor and a shoe string budget (less than 2 crore!) with the Vivek Khatkar and J.S. Rana produced LAHORE doing well at good cinemas, due to some sustained and classy publicity. The third release, Aditya Narayan's SHAAPIT will also appeal but selectively to the fans of the horror genre.
Last Friday's two major releases were Mukta Arts Ltd and Ikkon Pictures' RIGHT YAAA WRONG and Moserbaer Entertainment Ltd. and Idiot Box Films' HIDE N SEEK. Though the Sunny, Irrfan, Ishita and Konkona starrer received a lot of good reviews, both for the film as well as the performances, the film could not really improve on its ordinary to poor start. Trade predicts a bleak future for RIGHT YAAA WRONG. The other major release HIDE N SEEK, had a pathetic start all over and was rejected out right.
From the older releases, let us first check out Warner Bros. Pictures and Wide Angle Films' ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE?, the film managed quite a decent show in the wake of IPL, having collected 1.85 crores from Bombay (collections from 57 received), 70 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 25.60 lakhs from Baroda, 26.75 lakhs from Surat, 5.20 lakhs from Anand, 2.50 lakhs from Nadiad, 5 lakhs from Vapi, 4.15 lakhs from Valsad, 3.50 lakhs from Navsari, 4 lakhs from Bharuch, 2 lakhs each from Himmatnagar and Palanpur, 3.60 lakhs from Mehsana, 16.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 3.80 lakhs from Jamnagar, 5.35 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 1.20 lakhs each from Morbi, Surendranagar and Junagarh, 1.50 lakhs from Bhuj, 3.35 lakhs each from Gandhidham and Solapur, 24 lakhs from Pune (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.40 lakhs from Sangli, 7.50 lakhs from Nasik, 6.70 lakhs from Goa, 2.50 lakhs from Belguam, 1.55 crores from Delhi city, 27.35 lakhs from Noida, 13.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 14.20 lakhs from Kanpur, 21 lakhs from Lucknow, 8.15 lakhs from Agra, 5 lakhs each from Meerut and Allahabad, 1.50 lakhs from Muzaffarnagar, 35.25 lakhs from Gurgaon, 13.65 lakhs from Faridabad, 3.30 lakhs from Bhatinda, 3 lakhs each from Zirakpur and Kurukshetra, 2.70 lakhs from Ambala, 4 lakhs from Panipat, 1.30 lakhs from Pathankot, 30 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.75 lakhs each from Siliguri and Guwahati, 17 lakhs from Nagpur, 4.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 2.20 lakhs from Amravati, 2.35 lakhs from Akola, 6 lakhs from Raipur, 1.75 lakhs each from Durg and Dhule, 1.10 lakhs each from Wardha and Khandwa, 21 lakhs from Indore, 3.60 lakhs from Gwalior, 8.75 lakhs from Bhopal, 1.05 lakhs from Ujjain, 26.65 lakhs from Jaipur, 3.65 lakhs from Jodhpur, 3.30 lakhs from Ajmer, 3.12 lakhs from Bikaner, 6.15 lakhs from Kota, 36.25 lakhs from Hyderabad, 3.35 lakhs from Aurangabad, 17 lakhs from Bangalore, 4.75 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.20 lakhs from Vijaywada and 1.50 lakhs from Madras(collections from 5 cinemas unreceived). The Ajay, Konkona and Paresh starrer has collected 16 crores in its opening week from India. Given the decent costs it can already be classified an average fare. "The film though has been rejected in the Overseas, grossing ?96,771 from UK upto the second weekend and $101,226 in the US (12-14 March) .
Meanwhile Studio 18's prestigious offering, ROAD, MOVIE collected 35 lakhs from Bombay, 3.75 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.10 lakhs from Surat, 1.60 lakhs from Baroda, 32 lakhs from Rajkot, 10 lakhs from Pune, 28 lakhs from Delhi city, 4.35 lakhs from Noida, 2.05 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.30 lakhs from Lucknow, 6.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.25 lakhs from Faridabad, 3.60 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Nagpur, 1.30 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Jaipur, 4.50 lakhs from Hyderabad and 4.05 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding a further 3 crores, KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK has netted around 16.50 crores in two weeks from India. The Farhan-Deepika starrer will struggle to recover its costs. The film is so-so in the Overseas grossing ?121,354 from UK and $286,408 from US up to the third weekend (12-14 March).
