Bollywood box-office report of the week : 2 june 2010

The coming Friday will witness the release of one of the biggest multi-starrers of recent times, Prakash Jha's RAAJNEETI. The film based on politics may not set new opening records but is expected to embark on a good start at most stations of India.

Since it was an almost open week, no significant new Hindi release barring ASHOK CHAKRA – TRIBUTE TO REAL HEROES hit the cinemas. Unfortunately despite being the solo release the film failed from the first show itself, wherever it released.

After a superb weekend, the collections of Rakesh Roshan's Anurag Basu directed KITES fell heavily and it does not augur well for the expensive film. During its opening week KTES has netted a below par 40.75 crores from India. The Hrithik-Barbara starrer seems to be heading towards a heavy loser status, unless there is a miraculous turnaround in the second week. In the Overseas, KITES fell heavily as compared to the previous weekend. The film grossed ? 488,033 (4-day, 28-31 May) in the UK and $1,603,083 in the US till the second weekend (28-30 May).

The collections of BADMAASH COMPANY were hit badly by KITES, especially in the weekend. During the week BADMAASH COMPANY collected 45 lakhs from Bombay, 11.35 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.35 lakhs from Baroda, 1.65 lakhs from Surat, 1 lakh from Rajkot, 2.10 lakhs from Pune, 1.30 lakhs from Nasik, 36.20 lakhs from Delhi city, 4 lakhs from Noida, 2.30 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 3.35 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.40 lakhs from Agra, 5.20 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.65 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.40 lakhs from Ludhiana, 8 lakhs from Calcutta, 2 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.10 lakhs from Jabalpur, 1.70 lakhs from Raipur, 3.10 lakhs from Indore, 1.10 lakhs from Jaipur, 6.15 lakhs from Hyderabad and 10.35 lakhs from Bangalore. With another 2.60 crores, BADMAASH COMPANY has netted around 31.60 crores in three weeks from India. The Shahid-Anushka starrer is now moving towards a semi-hit status. The film though has failed to impress in the Overseas grossing ?125,328 till the fourth weekend (4-day, 28-31 May) in the UK.

Just like BADMAASH COMPANY, HOUSEFULL too had to bear the brunt of KITES superb opening weekend. The Sajid Khan directed film collected 20 lakhs from Bombay, 10.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Surat, 1.40 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 20 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs each from Noida and Ghaziabad, 2.65 lakhs from Kanpur, 5 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.75 lakhs from Agra, 1 lakh from Bareilly, 3.55 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.85 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.55 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.60 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.30 lakhs each from Nagpur , Jabalpur and Indore, 2 lakhs from Raipur, 1.20 lakhs from Akola , 1.65 lakhs from Jaipur, 41.10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2.05 lakhs from Aurangabad and 6.10 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 1.70 crore, HOUSEULL has netted about 69.50 crores in four weeks from India. The Akshay, Arjun, Lara, Ritesh and Deepika starrer is on course to end as a hit plus from India. In the Overseas HOUSEFULL has grossed ?681,749 till the fifth weekend (4-day, 28-31 May) in the UK and $1,183,658 from US at the end of its run.
