Bollywood box-office report of the week : 2 october 2014

This Thursday will witness big releases in the form of Hrithik-Katrina’s BANG BANG and the Shahid Kapoor starrer, HAIDER. Needless to add that BANG BANG will open with a bang (both in India and overseas) while HAIDER will lag behind but is still going to put up a creditable performance in the long run.

Quite expectedly, all the releases of last week- BALWINDER SINGH… FAMOUS HO GAYA, 3 A.M., DESI KATTEY, MAINU EK LADKI CHAAHIYE, MUMBAI DELHI MUMBAI, CHAARFUTIYA CHOKARE etc. have managed pathetic initials and are sure to fail.

Netting 21 crore during the opening week, and the way DAAWAT-E-ISHQ has progressed during the second weekend, it will have to rely on non-theatrical rights for recovery. The film is so-so in the overseas grossing £132,000 from UK and $360,000 from the US till the second weekend (26-28 September).

Netting 17 crore during the opening week and given the steady second weekend, KHOOBSURAT is on way to a profitable end, based on the worldwide run. The film fared quite well in the overseas grossing $2.50m with £328,000 from UK and $625,000 from the US, till the second weekend (26-28 September).

Meanwhile Homi Adajania’s FINDING FANNY crashed in the second week as it collected 75 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 5.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.15 lakhs from Surat, 2.50 lakhs from Baroda, 1 lakh from Rajkot, 20 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Nasik, 5.50 lakhs from Goa, 55 lakhs from Delhi city, 5 lakhs from Noida, 3 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1 lakh from Kanpur, 2.55 lakhs from Lucknow, 10.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.15 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.15 lakhs from Amritsar, 1.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 1.50 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 3 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.65 lakhs from Raipur, 3.20 lakhs from Indore, 3 lakhs from Bhopal, 5 lakhs from Jaipur, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad and 35 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 4 crore, FINDING FANNY has netted 30 crore in two weeks from India and is an average fare, based on the worldwide run. 

The film is good in the overseas (read US), grossing £195,000 from UK and $790,000 from the US till the third weekend (26-28 September).

Concluding with Omung Kumar’s Priyanka Chopra starrer, MARY KOM, the film added another 3 crore thus netting 58 crore in three weeks from India and is a semi-hit based on the worldwide run. 

MARY KOM has also performed very well in the overseas (for a female solo) grossing £115,000 from UK and $630,000 from the US.
