Bollywood box-office report of the week : 20 june 2014

This Friday's premier release is going to be Vashu Bhagnani's Sajid Khan directed Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Bipasha Basu, Chunky Pandey, Ram Kapoor and Tamannaah Bhatia starrer, HUMSHAKALS. We have already said and reiterate that HUMSHAKALS is all set for a good start at the ticket window.

The other two listed releases of the week, Prashant Singh directed THE UNTOLD STORY AAHINSA and Saumya Creations’ GUARDIANS, have little or no chances.

Last week saw multiple releases in the form of producer Akshay Kumar's (Grazing Goat Pictures) FUGLY, the Deepak Dobriyal starrer CHAL BHAAG, Zafar Shah's UNFORGETTABLE and Swara Bhaskar's paranormal thriller MACHHLI JAL KI RANI HAI. The best performance was expectedly by the Kabir Sadanand directed FUGLY, which netted 7.50 crore during the opening weekend. The remaining releases turned out to be damp squibs.

Moving on, Vipul Shah's A. R. Netting 68 crore during the opening week from India (and given the strong second week), HOLIDAY is on way to a clean hit status, if not more. HOLIDAY has also picked well in the overseas grossing $3.50m with £215,000 from UK and $707,000 from the US, till the second weekend (13-15 June).

The other release of the same week, Nitin Kakkar’s FILMISTAAN, could not perform to its full potential due to the HOLIDAY wave as it collected 1.15 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 12 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs from Surat, 5.50 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 25 lakhs from Pune, 3 lakhs from Nasik, 3 lakhs from Goa, 65.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 15 lakhs from Noida, 7 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.75 lakhs from Kanpur, 7.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 20.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 5 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.75 lakhs from Ludhiana, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 5 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 3 lakhs from Raipur, 5 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Gwalior, 4 lakhs from Bhopal, 10 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Kota, 2.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 6 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.75 lakhs from Aurangabad and 20 lakhs from Bangalore. 

Netting 5 crore during the opening week from India, FILMISTAAN may just about break even.

Concluding with the Hansal Mehta directed Rajkummar Rao starrer CITYLIGHTS, the film added another crore thus netting 7 crore in two weeks from India and is an average fare.
