This week's solo Hindi release is going to be the Chandrakant Singh directed Rajneesh, Tanisha, Rajpal and Shilpi starrer, BE-CAREFUL. Extensively shot in Thailand's Bangkok-Pattaya, the light hearted film tries to capitalize on the lack of competition and also the safe genre.
All the releases of last Friday – Nagesh Kukunoor directed MOD, Sanjay Leela Bhansali banner and UTV Motions Pictures' MY FRIEND PINTO, Prashant Chadha's AZAAN, Y-Films' MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE and JO DOOBA SO PAAR – IT'S LOVE IN BIHAR!, failed to make much of an impact.
Yes, MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE did fare the best (comparatively) but still the collections were nothing to write home about and MFK will not be able to emulate even the moderate success of its predecessor, LOVE KA THE END.
Moving on, David Dhawan's Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn starrer, RASCALS, failed to capitalize on the good opening day (Dussehra) and the collections came down with each passing day. The film collected 3.50 crores from Bombay (collections from 7 cinemas unreceived), 75 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 7.10 lakhs from Surat, 10 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 7 cinemas unreceived), 20.70 lakhs from Rajkot, 10 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 22.35 lakhs from Pune, 10.65 lakhs from Nasik, 7.25 lakhs from Belgaum, 2.20 crores from Delhi city, 26 lakhs from Noida, 22.75 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 25 lakhs from Kanpur, 45 lakhs from Lucknow, 17 lakhs from Agra, 8 lakhs from Allahabad, 5 lakhs from Aligarh, 35 lakhs from Gurgaon, 9 lakhs from Faridabad, 12.25 lakhs from Chandigarh, 6 lakhs from Jalandhar, 4.50 lakhs from Amritsar, 6 lakhs from Ludhiana, 4 lakhs from Bhatinda, 3.10 lakhs from Ambala, 35 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 7 lakhs from Siliguri, 4 lakhs from Guwahati, 25 lakhs from Nagpur, 16 lakhs from Jabalpur, 5 lakhs from Amravati, 15.35 lakhs from Raipur, 28.35 lakhs from Indore, 5.20 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 25 lakhs from Bhopal, 65 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 3.55 lakhs from Jodhpur, 8 lakhs from Ajmer, 5 lakhs from Bikaner, 11.65 lakhs from Kota, 7.40 lakhs from Udaipur, 70 lakhs from Hyderabad, 9.15 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 5.15 lakhs from Latur , 2.50 lakhs from Nanded, 4.35 lakhs from Gulbarga, 26.35 lakhs from Bangalore, 4 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.60 lakhs from Vijaywada, 3 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 1.15 lakhs from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived). Netting around 29 crores during the opening week (8-days), RASCALS will find it tough to break even, given the average first week and the ordinary second weekend.
The film has also been rejected in the Overseas grossing ?204,000 from the UK and $261,156 from the US till the second weekend (14-16 October).
Meanwhile the Zayed-Diya starrer, LOVE, BREAKUPS, ZINDAGI, showed some promise on the second day (Saturday) but it did not reflect in the numbers. The film collected 40 lakhs from Bombay, 7.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.15 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 2.55 lakhs from Pune, 15.75 lakhs from Delhi city, 3.20 lakhs from Noida, 1.65 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1 lakh from Kanpur, 2 lakhs from Lucknow, 3 lakhs from Gurgaon, 6 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.10 lakhs from Raipur, 2.30 lakhs from Indore, 2.55 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 2.30 lakhs from Hyderabad and 3.65 lakhs from Bangalore.
Netting just about 1.50 crores during the opening week LOVE BREAKUPS ZINDAGI has failed at the box-office.
Unfortunately Rajeev Khandelwal's SOUNDTRACK found the going tough from the first day and collected 20 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 10 cinemas unreceived), 3 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Pune, 7.20 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Noida, 2 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Indore and 2.10 lakhs from Bangalore. Netting 75 lakhs in its first week SOUNDTRACK is a disaster.
Comparatively speaking, during the second week Vipul Shah's John Abraham starrer, FORCE, fared better than the new releases (barring RASCALS) collecting 30 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 15 cinemas unreceived), 18 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.15 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 6 cinemas unreceived), 3.50 lakhs from Pune, 1.35 lakhs from Nasik, 25.70 lakhs from Delhi city, 6.65 lakhs from Noida, 4.20 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 5.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 6.65 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.20 lakhs from Agra, 1 lakh from Allahabad, 4.55 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Faridabad, 1.65 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10.50 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 4.35 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.65 lakhs from Amravati, 4 lakhs from Raipur, 4.65 lakhs from Indore, 1.55 lakhs from Bhopal, 7 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.25 lakhs from Bikaner, 1.55 lakhs from Kota, 1.30 lakhs from Udaipur, 7.50 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2.70 lakhs from Aurangabad, 1.50 lakhs from Mangalore, 9 lakhs from Bangalore and 1 lakh from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived).
Netting a further 3.25 crores, FORCE has netted an ordinary 26.25 crores in two weeks from India.
The film is a below average fare after accounting for the non-theatrical rights. FORCE though has been rejected in the overseas grossing ?135,000 from UK till the third weekend (14-16 October) and $105,000 from the US.
The growth that SAHEB, BIWI AUR GANGSTER showed during the opening weekend subsided during the weekdays and it fell drastically as the second week progressed.
The film collected 25 lakh from Bombay (collections from 10 cinemas unreceived), 4.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Baroda, 3 lakhs from Pune, 25 lakhs from Delhi city, 5.25 lakhs from Noida, 2.65 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1 lakh from Kanpur, 3 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Agra, 1 lakh from Allahabad, 8.55 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.35 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.75 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived) and 1.20 lakhs from Hyderabad.
Netting another 1.35crore SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER has netted a creditable 6.85 crores in two weeks from India and is a profitable venture, once the non-theatrical rights are accounted for.
