This week's hot new release is UTV Motion Pictures and Bhandarkar Entertainments' Kareena Kapoor starrer, HEROINE. Given director Madhur Bhandarkar's track record, Kareena Kapoor's riveting performance (as in the promos) and not to forget 'Halkat Jawani', HEROINE is set to open well at high end multiplexes and good single screens of big cities. Having said that, a RAAZ 3 or BARFI! like start is unlikely. What must also be kept in mind is that UTV Motion Pictures' very own BARFI! will still be a formidable opponent for HEROINE!
Moving on, after a good first day, the collections of Anurag Basu's Ranbir-Priyanka starrer, BARFI!, went from strength-to-strength as the weekend progressed (netting 34 crores). The very steady weekdays point to a clear hit. The film has also done wonderfully in the overseas grossing ?230,000 in the UK and $1,061,750 in the US, during the opening weekend (14-16 September).
The other two releases of the week, QAYAMAT HI QAYAMAT and JEENA HAI TOH THOK DAAL, are both washouts at an all India level. Having said that, JEENA HAI TOH THOK DAAL, which has been shot in Bihar, is doing quite well in some parts of that state.
