Bollywood box-office report of the week : 22 november 2012

The only major release of this week is going to be Fox 2000 Pictures' Ang Lee directed, LIFE OF PI (English and dubbed). The original English version film is expected to do well at the ticket window.

The two Diwali releases, Ajay Devgn's SON OF SARDAAR and the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, JAB TAK HAI JAAN, which released on 13th November (Tuesday), struck gold at the box-office as they both performed well in spite of Laxmi Pooja, The collections held up very well on the next two days also, and the Bhaiyya Dooj holiday added to the collections. The first extended week (10-days) is going to be bountiful for both the films, with the late Yash Chopra directed JAB TAK HAI JAAN, leading in India as well as the overseas.

As far as the numbers are concerned JTHJ has grossed ?894,250 from UK and $1,941,800 from the US, while SOS grossed ?214,300 from UK and $463,200 from the US, during the opening weekend (16-18 November).

Moving on, after a below par first week, Anurag Kashyap's LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA crashed completely in the second week (additionally due to the Diwali releases), as it collected 15 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Surat, 2.50 lakhs from Pune, 35 lakhs from Delhi city, 4.15 lakhs from Noida, 2.75 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2 lakhs from Lucknow, 8 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2 lakhs from Jalandhar, 3.50 lakhs from Calcutta, 1 lakh from Raipur, 1 lakh from Indore, 5 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 7 cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Hyderabad and 5 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 1.25 crore, LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA has netted 8.25 crore in two weeks from India, and can at best be rated as a below average fare.

Meanwhile Vikram Bhatt's 1920 – EVIL RETURNS managed to stay afloat despite Diwali releases and collected 50 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 7.75 lakhs from Ahmedabad (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 3.65 lakhs from Surat, 4 lakhs from Baroda, 2.20 lakhs from Rajkot, 8.25 lakhs from Pune, 3.50 lakhs from Nasik, 1 lakh from Belgaum, 50 lakhs from Delhi city, 5 lakhs from Noida, 5 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 4.65 lakhs from Kanpur, 8.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.15 lakhs from Agra, 2 lakhs from Allahabad, 1 lakh from Meerut, 1 lakh from Aligarh, 4.65 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Panipat, 2.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1 lakh from Amritsar, 12 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.65 lakhs from Siliguri, 1 lakh from Guwahati, 5.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 3.15 lakhs from Raipur, 4.50 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 5 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Bikaner, 3 lakhs from Kota, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.50 lakhs from Aurangabad, 10 lakhs from Bangalore and 1.50 lakhs from Madras. Adding another 4 crore, 1920-EVIL RETURNS has netted 23 crore in two weeks from India. The Aftab-Tia starrer is a clean hit for all concerned.

Concluding with Karan Johar's STUDENT OF THE YEAR, the film managed to add more moolah for all concerned collecting 35 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 3.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.65 lakhs from Surat, 2.25 lakhs from Baroda, 1.50 lakhs from Rajkot, 5 lakhs from Pune, 2.20 lakhs from Nasik, 15 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs from Noida, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 2.75 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1 lakh from Chandigarh, 1.15 lakhs from Jalandhar, 7 lakhs from Calcutta, 4 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Raipur, 2 lakhs from Indore, 1.50 lakhs from Gwalior, 2.65 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Kota, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 10 lakhs from Bangalore and 1.15 lakhs from Visakhapatnam. With another 1.50 crore, STUDENT OF THE YEAR has netted a praiseworthy 65.50 crore in four weeks from India, and is a hit. SOTY has also done well in the overseas (better in US) grossing ?321,200 in UK and $ 670,000 from the US.
