This Friday will witness the Diwali bonanza, Farah Khan’s Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah starrer, HAPPY NEW YEAR. Needless to add that the film will embark on a thunderous start, both in India and overseas, and in the process reset some/many existing box-office records.

Last Friday’s new releases, MUMBAI 125 KMS. and SONALI CABLE, managed weak and poor collections respectively and have been rejected.

From the bunched releases of last week, it was EKKEES TOPPON KI SALAAMI which just about managed to stay afloat in the cinemas as it collected 25 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 6 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.50 lakhs from Surat, 1 lakh from Baroda, 3 lakhs from Pune, 20 lakhs from Delhi city, 3.50 lakhs from Noida, 4.75 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 5.15 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.15 lakhs from Allahabad, 5.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.15 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2.50 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.15 lakhs from Nagpur, 2.50 lakhs from Raipur, 3 lakhs from Indore, 5 lakhs from Gwalior, 2 lakhs from Bhopal, 3.50 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 1.75 lakhs from Hyderabad and 3.50 lakhs from Bangalore.

Netting around 1.50 crore during its opening week EKKEES TOPPON KI SALAAMI has flopped at the box-office.

All the remaining releases of the week, JIGARIYAA, SPARK and (barring to an extent) TAMANCHEY, are washouts.

Adding another 25 crore, BANG BANG has netted 145 crore in two weeks from India (Hindi version). Given the expected satellite price (35-40 crore), 6 crore from the dubbed versions and the superb overseas run, the heavily priced BANG BANG is likely to end up as a semi-hit. The film is rocking in the overseas grossing nearly $13m with £1,122,000 from UK and $2,546,000 from the US, till the third weekend (17-19 October).

With another 15 crore , HAIDER has netted 55 crore in two weeks from India. Given the fact that HAIDER’s director Vishal and actor Shahid have forfeited their remuneration (cutting down the budget), as also the praiseworthy overseas performance, the film will emerge as an above average fare in the end count. HAIDER has done very well (especially US) in the overseas, grossing £181,000 from UK and $1,025,000 from the US, till the third weekend (17-19 October).
