This is going to be an almost open week for Indra Kumar's DOUBLE DHAMAAL, the sequel and follow up to his highly successful DHAMAAL (2007). Given the slick promotion and hype the Sanjay Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh, Ashish Chowdhry, Kangna Ranaut, Mallika Sherawat, Arshad Warsi, Satish Kaushik and Jaaved Jaaffrey starrer is expected to embark on a good start and if the contents are good and the word of mouth positive, the film can go from strength to strength.

Last Friday saw the release of five films – BHEJA FRY 2, ALWAYS KABHI KABHI, BIN BULAYE BARAATI, BHINDI BAAZAAR INC.. and CYCLE KICK. As was obvious, the audience again preferred READY, and from the bunched releases it was just BHEJA FRY 2 that saw some decent collections at select multiplexes and BIN BULAYE BAARAATI which was patronized by the single screen cinemas of North and Central India. The rest of the releases were rejected.

Moving on, despite good critical acclaim, Anurag Kashyap's SHAITAN failed to entice the audience and collected 1.10 crores from Bombay (collections from 30 cinemas unreceived), 25.65 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.65 lakhs from Rajkot (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 7.55 lakhs from Pune (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 3 lakhs from Nasik, 2.60 lakhs from Goa, 1.60 lakhs from Belgaum, 77.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 12.15 lakhs from Noida, 8 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3.60 lakhs from Kanpur, 7.75 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.20 lakhs from Agra, 1.65 lakhs from Allahabad, 1.20 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 22.35 lakhs from Gurgaon, 6 lakhs from Faridabad, 1 lakh from Panipat, 2 lakhs from Jalandhar, 5 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1 lakh from Amritsar, 1 lakh from Zirakpur, 1.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 12 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1 lakh from Siliguri, 1 lakh from Guwahati, 5.35 lakhs from Nagpur, 4 lakhs from Raipur, 7.30 lakhs from Indore, 1.10 lakh from Gwalior (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 3.65 lakhs from Bhopal, 11.25 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.30 lakhs from Kota, 5.55 lakhs from Hyderabad (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1.30 lakhs from Aurangabad, 20.55 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.65 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.35 lakhs from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived), and 1.40 lakhs from Kochi.

Netting about 5.30 crores during the first week, the Rajeev Khandelwal starrer, SHAITAN, is likely to end as a commercial debacle.

Checking out Mukta Arts', LOVE EXPRESS, the film turned out to be a poor show and collected 5 lakhs from Bombay, 2 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Noida. Netting just about 25 lakhs , LOVE EXPRESS is a washout.
