Bollywood box-office report of the week : 24 february 2010

Adv.

Last Friday saw three releases- Tips Films' Tabu – Sharman starrer, TOH BAAT PAKKI!, Pritish Nandy Communications, Chunky, Shreyas and Sadaa starrer, CLICK and the Rohit Karn Batra written, AAKHRI DECISION (with dialogues by Umair). Unfortunately, all three failed to impress at the turnstile. Surprisingly it was CLICK which dominated TOH BAAT PAKKI! while AAKHRI DECISION, with no known names to boast of and almost zero publicity, saw poor opening wherever it released. It is but obvious that all the aforementioned films are set to fail, as the audience preferred to watch the older releases, more so as it was the Valentine week

This week is going to see the psychedelic holi weekend. Not as bountiful as the Diwali or Eid period but collections definitely improve during the festival of colours. So what's on offer? Well, we have India's megastar Amitabh Bachchan teaming up with international star, Ben 'Mahatma' Kingsley in TEEN PATTI, a film that has Big B returning to the gambling table, after 1979, which saw the runaway hit, THE GREAT GAMBLER. Giving company to TEEN PATTI will be the Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone starrer, KARTHIK CALLING KARTHIK. Both the films have been well promoted and boast of good cast and production values, and Bollywood will definitely look forward to its next success of the year after ISHQIYA and MY NAME IS KHAN.

From the day Karan Johar's MY NAME IS KHAN released, we have been bombarded by totally contrasting news. While one lobby had doomsday prophecies and 'inside stories' about how the collections had nosedived to 7-8 percent, the other end of spectrum saw totally positive news about how every possible record had been shattered by MNIK! The fact of the matter is MY NAME IS KHAN, after overcoming the release hurdles, had a great weekend, and after that collections dipped (even sharply) in the smaller sub-territories of C.P. , C.I. and Bihar, but the film held beautifully in places where it mattered and from where big numbers have accrued. In fact MY NAME IS KHAN has generated a distributor's share of 26.20 crores in its opening week itself! The film collected 5 crore from Bombay (collections from 44 cinemas unrecieved), 1.80 crore from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs from Surat, 8.50 lakhs from Nadiad, 14.35 lakhs from Anand, 65.25 lakhs from Baroda, 5.15 lakhs from Bharuch, 4.30 lakhs each from Bardoli and Palanpur, 1.40 lakhs from Deesa, 6 lakhs from Valsad, 2.50 lakhs from Patan, 28.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 7.65 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1.05 lakhs from Dwarka, 1.65 lakhs each from Morbi and Surendranagar, 3.50 lakhs from Junagarh, 8.50 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 3 lakhs from Porbandar, 2.35 lakhs from Bhuj, 7.55 lakhs from Gandhidham, 2.35 lakhs from Adipur, 42 lakhs from Pune (collections from all other cinemas unreceived), 2.75 lakhs from Solapur, 1.65 lakhs from Sangli, 25.20 lakhs from Goa, 8.65 lakhs from Hubli, 6.40 lakhs from Belgaum, 4.75 lakhs from Dharwad, 5.75 crores from Delhi city, 78 lakhs from Noida, 50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 40 lakhs from Kanpur, 65 lakhs from Lucknow, 16 lakhs from Agra, 10 lakhs from Allahabad, 9.10 lakhs from Meerut, 9.35 lakhs from Aligarh, 8 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 3 lakhs from Muzzafarnagar, 1.15 crores from Gurgaon, 39 lakhs from Faridabad, 19.30 lakhs from Chandigarh, 9 lakhs from Zirakpur, 13 lakhs from Ludhiana, 6.35 lakhs from Bhatinda, 10.25 lakhs from Ambala, 6.55 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 11.65 lakhs from Panipat, 4.65 lakhs from Pathankot, 2.85 crores from Calcutta, 3.35 lakhs from Darjeeling, 13.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 5.35 lakhs from Guwahati, 50 lakhs from Nagpur, 10.65 lakhs from Jabalpur, 5 lakhs from Amravati, 3.65 lakhs from Akola, 22.60 lakhs from Raipur, 2 lakhs from Chhindwara, 1.65 lakhs from Wardha, 3.10 lakhs from Chandrapur, 2.15 lakhs from Khandwa, 62 lakhs from Indore, 8.12 lakhs from Gwalior(collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 21.05 lakhs from Bhopal, 1.10 lakhs from Shivpuri, 2.05 lakhs from Ujjain, 3.12 lakhs from Dewas, 75.55 lakhs from Jaipur(collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 8.50 lakhs from Jodhpur, 11.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 4.75 lakhs from Bikaner, 11.35 lakhs from Kota, 1.75 lakhs each from Sriganganagar and Kishangarh, 58 lakhs from Hyderabad (collections from all other cinemas unrecieved ) , 13 lakhs from Aurangabad, 4lakhs from Warangal, 1.80 lakhs from Nanded, 7.35 lakhs from Gulbarga, 1.05 crores from Bangalore, 12.50 lakhs from Mangalore, 5 lakhs from Davangere, 5.30 lakhs from Vijaywada, 1.65 lakhs from Ananthapur, 5 lakhs from Madras(collections from all other cinemas unreceived), 2.60 lakhs from Madurai, 2.45 lakhs from Pondicherry and 3 lakhs from Coimbatore.
