Bollywood box-office report of the week : 25 april 2014

This Friday will witness multiple releases in the form of Subhash Ghai's KAANCHI, the Rajeev, Saumik and Madalsa starrer SAMRAT & CO and last but not the least, Tigmanshu Dhulia's Kangana-Vir venture REVOLVER RANI. While it is difficult to predict the eventual winner, it seems that it will be a straight fight between REVOLVER RANI and KAANCHI, with Rajshri's SAMRAT & CO in hot pursuit. While that was about the upcoming films, the week old 2 STATES will once again prove to be a tough competitor to the three new releases!

Last week's premium release, Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar's 2 STATES, was off to an expected good start at the multiplexes. The film consolidated further during the next two days, netting 37 crore during the opening weekend from India. Given the very stable weekdays, 2 STATES is destined to be a big success. Very much as we had indicated in our Saturday update, the film is rocking the overseas (especially US) circuit too grossing ?210,000 from UK and $1,075,000 from the US during the opening weekend (18-20 April).

Adding another 12 crore MAIN TERA HERO has netted 48 crore in two weeks from India and is a semi-hit.

Concluding for the last time with Vikas Bahl's Kangana-Rajkumar starrer, QUEEN, the film managed another crore, thus netting 62 crore in six weeks from India and ends up as the first super hit of 2014. QUEEN has also done superbly in the overseas (especially US) grossing ?203,000 from UK and $1,385,500 from the US.
