The coming week will witness multiple releases in the form of Veena Malik's SUPERMODEL, the Chandan Roy Sanyal starrer PRAGUE, Anubhav Sinha's WARNING 3D and the Jaideep Chopra directed MAAZII. Needless to add that the front runner will be the impressive WARNING 3D followed by PRAGUE, with the other two releases lagging behind.
The major release of last Friday, Ramesh S. Taurani's (Tips Films), Rajkumar Santoshi directed PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO scored well at the single screens. The metro multiplexes though were lower, as a result, despite a day wise pick up the film could not score to its potential, netting 21 crore (during the opening weekend). Having said that, given the fact that a major chunk of the film's investment (about 30 crore) has already been obtained from the satellite, audio and overseas rights and the remaining (15 crore) will be easily recovered from the Indian theatrical run. The Shahid-Ileana starrer, PHATA POSTER NIKHLA HERO, has under-performed in the overseas grossing ?80,000 from UK and $261,000 from the US during the opening weekend (20-22 September).
The other release of last Friday, the Irrfan-Nawazuddin starrer, THE LUNCHBOX, started on a good note at high-end multiplexes and picked up further during the weekend netting a creditable 7 crore. Given the very reasonable involved costs, and the way the film has progressed during the weekdays, THE LUNCHBOX is on way to be not just critical but commercial success as well.
