The coming Friday will witness the release of blockbuster filmmaker Kabir Khan’s next venture, the Saif-Katrina starrer, PHANTOM. The topical film, banking on popular soundtrack and some great promotion, should impress at the box-office. The other releases of the week include Kunal Kapoor and Radhika Apte’s KAUN KITNEY PAANI MEIN, BANKEY KI CRAZY BARAAT and GAURAIYA. The mentioned ventures will not only have to contend with the lavishly mounted PHANTOM, but ironically even Radhika Apte’s own MANJHI-THE MOUNTAIN MAN, doing surprisingly steady (mid end) business.
Last week saw two contrasting releases, Umesh Shukla’s Abhishek, Asin, Rishi and Zeeshan starrer ALL IS WELL and the Ketan Mehta directed Nawazuddin and Radhika biopic MANJHI – THE MOUNTAIN MAN.
Coming to ALL IS WELL (a road comedy), the film saw a decent start and picked up slightly during the weekend, netting around 9-10 crore. Given the 27-28 crore budget, and not so stable weekdays, ALL IS WELL is set for a tough journey in the coming days. ALL IS WELL has under-performed in the overseas grossing £55,000 in the UK and $80,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (21-23 August).
As far as MANJHI – THE MOUNTAIN MAN (a biopic on Dashrath Manjhi) is concerned, the film started on a dull note but the pick- up was more pronounced, netting 5-6 crore during the opening weekend. Given the very reasonable 7.50 crore budget, and quite steady weekdays, MANJHI – THE MOUNTAIN MAN can hope, not only for a safe status but even for a successful outing! Tax exemptions in many states (Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand) is helping the cause of the film further.
