Bollywood box-office report of the week : 28 august 2013

This week will witness the release of Prakash Jha'sAmitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Arjun Rampal, Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Rao starrer SATYAGRAHA. The film is awaited by a section of the audience and is quite topical, and so it is expected to open to a good to decent response.

Last Friday's Shoojit Sircar directed John Abraham starrer, MADRAS CAFE, saw an ordinary opening day (barring premier multiplexes), but thanks to the highly positive word-of-mouth, from the actual cinema frequenting audience, the film saw a big pick up from the second day onwards. During the opening weekend MADRAS CAFE netted close to 20 crore, and is doing fairly well during the weekdays as well. The film may not have released in the UK (due to protests) but is having a good run in the overseas, especially in the US, where it has grossed $245,000 during the opening weekend (23-25 August).

Adding another 41 crore, the Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer, CHENNAI EXPRESS,has netted 193 crore (including paid previews) in two weeks from India, and is an all-time blockbuster. The film is an overseas blockbuster grossing ?1,925,000 from UK and $4,688,000 from the US till the third weekend (23-25 August).

Concluding,perhaps for the last time with Viacom 18's Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directedFarhan Akhtar starrer, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, the film added another crore thereby netting 108.50 crore in six weeks from India and is a super duper hit based on the worldwide run.
