bollywood box office report of the week : 28 may 2015

The major releases of this week are Vashu Bhagnani’s WELCOME 2 KARACHI and the Mahaakshay- Evelyn starrer ISHQEDARRIYAAN.

It is going to be a tough battle for both the mentioned releases as the week old TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS will prove more than a handful. The other listed release of the week, P SE PM TAK, will find the going even tougher.

Coming to last Friday’s R Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut and Deepak Dobriyal starrer, TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS, the follow up to the highly successful TANU WEDS MANU, the film is expectedly speeding towards a  superhit status,  globally.

As far as the number crunching is concerned, TWMR collected 8.85 crore on Friday and picked up phenomenally on Saturday grabbing 13.20 crore. Sunday was magical with 16.20 crore, resulting in the film netting 38.10 crore during the opening weekend. What is now obvious (given the weekday performance) is that TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS is going to be the first women oriented 100 crore netter of recent times , which means a blockbuster status is not out of question.

As far as the overseas is concerned, TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS is a sureshot superhit, grossing nearly $2.70m (the best opener of 2015) with £175,000 from UK and $970,000 from US, during the opening weekend (22-24 May).

Netting 23 crore during the opening week from India, BOMBAY VELVET is a disaster. The film has also disappointed in the overseas grossing £145,000 from UK and $425,000 from the US, till the second weekend (22-24 May)

Adding another 23 crore, PIKU has netted 63 crore in two weeks from India and is a clean hit. PIKU is also a big overseas hit grossing  $5.50m with  £310,000 from UK and $2,100,000 from the US, till the third weekend (22-24 May).
