Bollywood box-office report of the week : 31 july 2014

Keeping the still very strong KICK in mind, no prominent film is going to hit the screens this week. Just for records names like LATEEF : THE KING OF CRIME, THE INTERNATIONAL PROBLEM and VATSANYA KAMASUTRA, are listed for release.

Last Friday saw the release of Sajid Nadiadwala’s Salman, Jacqueline, Nawazuddin and Randeep starrer, KICK. Despite the opening day coming in lower than the initial estimations, KICK more than made up for it with a thumping Sunday, despite Ramzan and netted a huge 84-85 crore during the opening weekend. The film was further boosted by the Eid-Ul-Fitr holiday on Tuesday. It is estimated that KICK will close the opening week at around 155 crore from India. Given the way KICK is holding (on weekdays), it is on way to be the first blockbuster of 2014. KICK has also grossed a handsome $3m from the overseas, with £240,000 from UK and $1,070,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (25-27 July).

Netting 23 crore during the opening week from India, the low budgeted HATE STORY 2 is an above average fare.

Moving on, Bejoy Nambiar’s PIZZA (3D) fared below par collecting 65 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 11.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2.75 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 1.55 lakhs from Rajkot, 16 lakhs from Pune, 2.15 lakhs from Goa, 40 lakhs from Delhi city, 6 lakhs from Noida, 5.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2.25 lakhs from Kanpur, 7 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.15 lakhs from Allahabad, 7 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.65 lakhs from Faridabad, 5 lakhs from Chandigarh, 2 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.85 lakhs from Ludhiana, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.75 lakhs from Siliguri, 2 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 1 lakh from Guwahati, 3.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Jabalpur, 4.15 lakhs from Raipur, 6 lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Gwalior, 2 lakhs from Bhopal, 10 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.15 lakhs from Kota, 2 lakhs from Udaipur, 6.50 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1 lakh from Aurangabad, 15 lakhs from Bangalore, 1.75 lakhs from Mangalore, 1 lakh from Vijayawada, 1.75 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 1.15 lakhs from Madras. The remaining significant release of the same week, Vir Das’s AMIT SAHNI KI LIST, could not make much of an impact netting 2 crore during the opening week and is a flop.

Adding another 20 crore, the reasonably priced, HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA, has netted 72 crore in two weeks from India and is a hit. The film has also done very well (read US) in the overseas grossing £155,000 from UK and $840,000 from the US till the third weekend (25-27 July).
