Bollywood Box Office Report Of The Week: 3rd Oct 2019

The coming Friday will witness the release of Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim venture THE SKY IS PINK and Fox Star Studios Kunal Khemu, Ranvir Shorey and Vijay Raaz starrer LOOTCASE. Needless to add that WAR will prove too strong an opponent for the newbie’s except to an extent THE SKY IS PINK.

Checking out one of the biggest projects of the second half of 2019, Yash Raj Films’ Gandhi Jayanti extravaganza, the Siddharth Anand directed WAR, starring two of Hindi cinema’s  action superstars, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, along with  Vani Kapoor. Quite expectedly the film embarked on a hurricane like opening and ended the opening day netting nearly 51 crore, which is the highest single day beating YRF’s very own THUGS OF HINDOSTAN by 2-3 crore! While the film has success written all over it (despite huge costs), how big or small, time alone will decide!

Last Friday was an almost an open week with no major Hindi releases. All the new ventures, Arbaaz Khan’s MAIN ZAROOR AAUNGA, VK Productions LITTLE BABY etc  fared miserably  as the audience is held on to their purse strings for the Gandhi Jayanti biggie WAR  and preferred older releases like CHHICHHORE and DREAM GIRL.

Moving on to  the clash between the three prominent Hindi releases, Sanjay Dutt’s PRASTHAANAM,  Karan’s debut venture  PAL PAL DIK KE PAAS and Fox Star Studios’ THE ZOYA FACTOR, where none made a mark at the turnstile.  Sanjay Dutt’s PRASTHAANAM  was rejected from day one barely managing 4.50 crore during the opening week. Sonam-Dulquer Salman’s THE ZOYA FACTOR is washout, barely managing 3 crore during its first week.

Coming to the Sunny Deol directed PAL PAL DIL KE PAAS too faced a dismal fate but was the best of the lot (comparatively) collecting  85 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 15.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 7.50 lakhs from Surat, 5 lakhs from Baroda, 3 lakhs from Rajkot, 15 lakhs from Pune, 1.75 lakhs from Nasik, 3 lakhs from Goa, 75 lakhs from Delhi city, 20 lakhs from Noida, 15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 6 lakhs from Kanpur,  17.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 10 lakhs from Agra, 2.75 lakhs from Allahabad, 4 lakhs from Dehradun, 15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 7.55 lakhs from Faridabad, 7.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 5 lakhs from Amritsar, 6.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 2.50 lakhs from Jammu,  15 lakhs from Calcutta, 3.50 lakhs from Patna, 3.50 lakhs from Ranchi, 4 lakhs from Bhubaneshwra, 2.25 lakhs from Guwahati, 5 lakhs from Nagpur, 5 lakhs from Raipur, 6.50 lakhs from Indore, 3.50lakhs from Gwalior , 6 lakhs from Bhopal , 25 lakhs from Jaipur, 2.75 lakhs from Jodhpur, 1.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 2.50 lakhs from Kota, 2.75 lakhs from Udaipur, 10 lakhs from Jaipur, 15 lakhs from Hyderabad, 3.50 lakhs from Madras and 15 lakhs  from Bangalore.
