The new releases of the coming week are quite diverse and interesting. The list includes Anurag Kashyap's Abhay Deol, Mahi and Kalki Koetchlin starrer DEV D; the Madhureeta Anand directed Arbaaz, Raima and Randeep project, MERE KHWABON MEIN JO AAYE, and veteran producer Rajiv Kumar's Govinda starrer CHAL CHALA CHAL. One feels that it's going to be a straight contest between DEV D and MERE KHWABON MEIN JO AAYE and the winner is likely to be the MKMJA, thanks to some sustained and good publicity and a more popular soundtrack. But there is something unpredictable about DEV D and it is definitely awaited by a section of the audience and may just spring a surprise! The delayed CHAL CHALA CHAL, presented by Priyadarshan, had the potential to impress, but K Sera Sera have just not publicized it, for reasons best known to them.
Last week had another predictable outcome. Debutante director Zoya Akhtar's LUCK BY CHANCE, released at 84 cinemas of Bombay-Thane (thru Big Pictures), saw a weak to poor opening. The Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma starrer showed some improvement over the weekend but that was not something to write home about. On the other hand, Ajitpal Mangat's Harman Baweja and Amrita Rao starrer was an expected non-starter from the first show. Released at around 85 cinemas of Bombay-Thane (thru PVR Pictures Ltd.), VICTORY saw a horrifyingly low to disastrous opening. In the Overseas LUCK BY CHANCE has managed a poor $107,299 in the UK and a so-so $216,918 from US.Trade feels that LBC is low on entertainment value and will fall short of luck at the box-office, while VICTORY will face a complete rejection.
