This week's major release, Vipul Shah's A. R. Murugadoss directed Akshay-Sonakshi starrer, HOLIDAY – A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY, is a top star lavishly mounted film after a long time. Additionally the film is keenly awaited, thanks to the good and slick promos and the popular music. Given the aforementioned reasons HOLIDAY is expected to embark on a good start at many places and a decent opening at some circuits like Mysore. The other major release of the week, Nitin Kakkar's FILMISTAAN, is carrying decent reports, and good critic ratings, but is unlikely to withstand the HOLIDAY heat.
Last Friday's two releases, the Hansal Mehta directed Rajkummar Rao starrer CITYLIGHTS and Ekta Kapoor's KUKU MATHUR KI JHAND HO GAYI, went the expected way. CITYLIGHTS, the next offering from the National Award winning SHAHID team, saw a decent growth over the weekend and a steady Monday, netting around 4.25 crore during the first four days, and is likely to double SHAHID's lifetime run by the end of the first week itself! The other release, KUKU MATHUR KI JHAND HO GAYI, could not achieve anything significant.
Moving on, Sajid Nadiadwala's Sabbir Khan directed Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon and Sandeepa Dhar starrer, HEROPANTI, saw a good opening week as it collected 3.75 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1.50 crore from Ahmedabad, 38 lakhs from Surat, 25.65 lakhs from Baroda (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 22 lakhs from Rajkot, 77.25 lakhs from Pune, 20 lakhs from Nasik, 11 lakhs from Goa, 5.25 lakhs from Belgaum, 3.20 crore from Delhi city, 37.50 lakhs from Noida, 44 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 29.25 lakhs from Kanpur, 57.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 5.50 lakhs from Agra, 13.25 lakhs from Allahabad, 7 lakhs from Aligarh, 45 lakhs from Gurgaon, 10.65 lakhs from Faridabad, 4 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 6.15 lakhs from Panipat, 21.15 lakhs from Chandigarh, 9.25 lakhs from Jalandhar, 6 lakhs from Amritsar, 10 lakhs from Ludhiana, 3.35 lakhs from Bhatinda, 2.25 lakhs from Ambala, 3.25 lakhs from Jammu, 60 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Darjeeling, 7.25 lakhs from Siliguri, 5.75 lakhs from Patna, 7.50 lakhs from Dhanbad, 4.50 lakhs from Ranchi, 8.15 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 2.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 40 lakhs from Nagpur, 20.25 lakhs from Jabalpur, 34.50 lakhs from Raipur, 35.65 lakhs from Indore (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 10 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 30 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 crore from Jaipur, 40 lakhs from Jodhpur, 17.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 5.15 lakhs from Bikaner, 20 lakhs from Kota, 20 lakhs from Udaipur, 21 lakhs from Hyderabad, 12.25 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 45 lakhs from Bangalore, 2.50 lakhs from Managlore, 1.25 lakhs from Vijayawada, 3.25 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 2 lakhs from Madras and 2 lakhs from Kochi. Netting 35 crore during the opening week from India HEROPANTI is approaching a semi-hit status.
Concluding with Rajnikanth's KOCHADAIIYAAN (dubbed, animation), the film failed to make much of an impact with the Hindi version and could not emulate the success of the megastar's ROBOT and ended up netting just around 1.75 crore during the opening week.
