This week's new releases include the Sanjay-Ajay starrer RASCALS, Zayed-Diya's LOVE, BREAKUPS, ZINDAGI and last but not the least Rajeev Khandelwal's SOUNDTRACK. From the three it is likely to be the David Dhawan directed RASCALS (that releases on Thursday) that will win this Friday's box-office battle although LOVE BREAKUPS ZINDAGI too is likely to get some patronage, while SOUNDTRACK, aimed at the discerning audience, may appeal at select cinemas.
Meanwhile the good to decent opening of Vipul Shah's John Abraham starrer, FORCE, was never in doubt, and it did precisely that. The film also maintained well during the weekend netting around 16 crores. However, the film has fallen sharply Monday onwards and that is not good news. In the overseas FORCE has disappointed by grossing ?66,000 from UK and $105,000 from the US during the opening weekend (30th September ? 2nd October).
From the other releases of the week- SAHEB, BIWI AUR GANGSTER, HUM TUM SHABANA, TERE MERE PHERE and CHARGESHEET – it was just SBAG that fared well. In fact the film showed an upsurge in collections during the weekdays and may just about be a plus fare! The remaining releases have failed.
Moving on, after a decent weekend, the collections of Pankaj Kapur's MAUSAM fell sharply during the weekdays. During the week MAUSAM collected 3.10 crores from Bombay (collections from 53 cinemas unreceived), 1 crore from Ahmedabad, 10 lakhs from Surat, 25.30 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 23 lakhs from Rajkot, 50 lakhs from Pune, 15 lakhs from Nasik, 7 lakhs from Goa, 4 crores from Delhi city, 51 lakhs from Noida, 35 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 25.20 lakhs from Kanpur, 42 lakhs from Lucknow, 16.70 lakhs from Agra, 10.40 lakhs from Allahabad, 74.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 13.55 lakhs from Faridabad, 8.15 lakhs from Panipat, 21 lakhs from Chandigarh, 9.25 lakhs from Jalandhar, 6.50 lakhs from Amritsar, 9.25 lakhs from Ludhiana, 6 lakhs from Ambala, 75 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 7 lakhs from Siliguri, 5 lakhs from Guwahati, 26.55 lakhs from Nagpur, 12 lakhs from Jabalpur, 17.50 lakhs from Raipur, 36.55 lakhs from Indore, 9.35 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 20.15 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 76.60 lakhs from Jaipur, 6.50 lakhs from Jodhpur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 8 lakhs from Ajmer, 5 lakhs from Bikaner, 60 lakhs from Hyderabad, 3 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 86 lakhs from Bangalore, 5.10 lakhs from Mangalore, 3 lakhs from Vijayawada, 3.50 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 8.50 lakhs from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived). Netting 28.50 crores during the opening week, the Shahid Sonam starrer, MAUSAM, will just about break even, after accounting for the non-theatrical rights. The film though has done well in the overseas grossing ?320,500 from UK and $655,500 from US till the second weekend (30th September -2nd October)
After a poor start (barring North) Hari Om Entertainment Co. and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures' SPEEDY SINGHS showed no improvement as it collected 35 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 13 cinemas unreceived), 6.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.25 lakhs from Baroda, 5 lakhs from Pune, 1 lakh from Nasik, 60 lakhs from Delhi city, 10 lakhs from Noida, 4.20 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 1.55 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Agra, 12.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 1 lakh from Panipat, 7 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.55 lakhs from Amritsar, 3 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.25 lakhs from Ambala, 4 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1.35 lakhs from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Raipur, 1.50 lakhs from Indore, 3.20 lakhs from Jaipur, 5 lakhs from Hyderabad, 4.20 lakhs from Latur, 2.65 lakhs from Gulbarga, 7.20 lakhs from Bangalore and 1 lakh from Madras. Netting just about 3.60 crores SPEEDY SINGHS is a losing fare for all concerned.
Moving on the Katrina Kaif, Imran Khan and Ali Zafar starrer MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN saw a pronounced fall for the first time as it collected 50 lakhs from Bombay, 13 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.35 lakhs from Surat, 4 lakhs from Baroda, 2.20 lakhs from Rajkot, 4.50 lakhs from Pune, 2 lakhs from Nasik, 40 lakhs from Delhi city, 6.50 lakhs from Noida, 4 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 4.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 6.65 lakhs from Lucknow, 6.25 lakhs from Gurgaon, 1.25 lakhs from Faridabad, 1 lakh from Panipat, 2 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.10 lakhs from Jalandhar, 1.20 lakhs from Ludhiana, 11 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Siliguri, 5.20 lakhs from Nagpur, 4.60 lakhs from Raipur, 5.35 lakhs from Indore, 2 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 11.60 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.25 lakhs from Jodhpur, 12.25 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.20 lakhs from Aurangabad, 11 lakhs from Bangalore and 1.20 lakhs from Visakhapatnam. Adding another 3.75 crores MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN has netted 57.75 crores in three weeks from India and is a clear hit. The film has also done well in the Overseas grossing ?469,000 from UK till the fourth weekend (30th September – 2nd October).and $496,172 from US.
Concluding yet again with Salman Khan's BODYGUARD, the film is now ending its amazing run collecting 15 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 20 cinemas unreceived), 8.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2 lakhs from Surat, 2.50 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 2.15 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.20 lakhs from Pune, 1.15 lakhs from Nasik, 6.65 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.55 lakhs from Noida, 1.65 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 2 lakhs from Kanpur, 4.50 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3 lakhs from Calcutta (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 2.25 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Raipur, 1.25 lakhs from Indore, 4.65 lakhs from Bhopal, 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 5 lakhs from Hyderabad and 2.10 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 2.25 crores BODYGUARD has netted 144 crores in four weeks from India and is an all time blockbuster. BODYGUARD is also Salman's biggest overseas grosser with ? 1,408,000 from UK till the fifth weekend (30th September-2nd October) and $1,557,000 from the US.
