This week's new releases include Emraan Hashmi's CROOK-IT'S GOOD TO BE BAD and the return to the good old days via Walt Disney's Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh starrer, DO DOONI CHAAR. Giving company to CROOK and DO DOONI CHAAR will be Ramsay's BACHAO .. INSIDE BHOOT HAI along with the animated LAVA-KUSA. It is obvious that the front runner is going to be Mohit Suri's CROOK but old war horse Rishi has the capacity to surprise more so as the he has for company his still charming wife, Neetu Singh (Kapoor)! The other two releases BACHAO .. INSIDE BHOOT HAI and LAVA-KUSA will go largely unnoticed.
Last Friday's two releases, Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra's ANJAANA ANJAANI and the Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai starrer ROBOT went the expected way. ANJAANA ANJAANI saw a good start at city multiplexes but it was average at single screens. Trade predicts a not so rosy picture (after the good weekend) for the Siddharth Anand directed flick. The film has done decent to good business in the Overseas grossing ?181,428 from UK and $517,608 from US, during the opening weekend (1-3 October).
Meanwhile Shankar's ENDHIRAN and ENTHIRAN -THE ROBOT has done extra ordinary business in South (Tamil and Telugu), while the Hindi version ROBOT saw an average start, though trade expects a pick up. In the Overseas ENTHIRAN, ENTHIRAN -THE ROBOT and ROBOT have jointly smashed the opening weekend records of even films like 3 IDIOTS and MY NAME IS KHAN in the US. The film (Tamil & Hindi) has grossed ? 339, 071 from UK and a whopping $ 2,166,178 from US (all three versions combined), during the opening weekend (1-3 October).
The last release KHICHDI -THE MOVIE could not come anywhere near the popularity of the serial. In fact it turned out to be a good experimental attempt that turned horribly wrong (despite the uniform critical acclaim) for it's distributors, barring Gujarat, putting a question mark on the viability of such projects in the future.
