This Friday’s premier new release is Karan Johar’s Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, Tara Sutaria and Aditya Seal starrer, STUDENT OF THE YEAR 2. An interesting thing is that till recently the film appeared to be a hot proposition and the popular songs and the youthful appeal of the film added to the buzz. However, for no apparent reason(may be due to the AVENGERS :ENDGAME wave!) the curiosity for the Punit Malhotra directed film has dipped a bit. But then it is from the SOTY stable and stars the hot Tiger Shroff and so it should score at the box-office, more so due to the campus crowd patronage.
The other film of the week CHHOTA BHEEM : KUNG FU DHAMAKA is likely to suffer due to lack of promotion.
Both the releases of last week, Sunny Deol’s action thriller BLANK and Ashwini Chaudhari’s Aftab-Shreyas starrer SETTERS, failed to impress at the ticket window and have been rejected. Comparatively speaking BLANK was far ahead netting 3 crore, while SETTERS barely touched the 1 crore mark.
Meanwhile, it is AVENGERS : ENDGAME (all versions) that blazed at the box-office netting 260 crore during the opening week from India and in the process smashing the best Hindi film SULTAN Salman’s opening week record (208-209 crore), thereby setting a new benchmark. AVENGERS : ENDGAME crossed the 300 crore at the end of it’s second weekend and it won’t be a surprise if it gets to the 400 crore mark as well.
We bring some astonishing numbers for the Hindi version of AVENGERS : ENDGAME – 10 crore from Bombay, 4.25 crore from Ahmedabad, 2 crore from Surat, 1.25 crore from Baroda, 3 crore from Pune, 6.75 crore from Delhi city, 1.85 crore from Noida, 3.25 crore from Ghaziabad, 1.55 crore from Kanpur, 3.25 crore from Lucknow, 1 crore from Agra, 1.25 crore from Gurgaon, 1.25 crore from Faridabad, 2.50 crore from Calcutta, 1.50 crore from Nagpur, 2.25 crore from Indore and 3.50 crore from Jaipur.
Meanwhile after an ordinary extended 9-day opening week (75 crore) Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala’s multi-starrer KALANK, starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri, Sonakshi, Alia, Varun Dhawan and Aditya Roy crashed further during the second week collecting 75 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unrecieved), 20 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs from Surat, 3 lakhs from Baroda, 16.50 lakhs from Pune, 2.25 lakhs from Nasik, 1.25 lakhs from Goa, 45 lakhs from Delhi city, 12.50 lakhs from Noida, 10 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 5.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 15 lakhs from Lucknow,6.50 lakhs from Agra, 5 lakhs from Allahabad, 2.50 lakhs from Aligarh, 2.25 lakhs from Dehradun, 10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.50 lakhs from Chandigarh, 12.50 lakhs from Jalandhar , 2 lakhs from Ludhiana, 4.75 lakhs from Bhatinda, 15 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.25 lakhs from Siliguri, 2 lakhs from Patna, 2 lakhs from Dhanbad, 3.75 lakhs from Ranchi, 2.25 lakhs from Bhubaneshwar, 2 lakhs from Guwahati, 5 lakhs from Nagpur, 29 lakhs from Raipur, 6.50 lakhs from Indore, 3 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 2 cinemas unrecieved), 5 lakhs from Bhopal (collections from 3 cinemas unrecieved), 25 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.25 lakhs from Ajmer, 2 lakhs from Kota, 2.25 lakhs from Udaipur, 10 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2.25 lakhs from Aurangabad and 20 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 7 crore KALANK has netted 82 crore in two weeks (16-days) from India and is a huge debacle. KALANK has done quite well in the overseas grossing $6.80m with £960,000 from UK and $2,700,000 from the US, till the third weekend (3-5 May).
Concluding with Vivek Agnihotri’s THE TASHKENT FILES, the film continued it’s amazing run adding another 4 crore thus netting in 11.50 crore in three weeks from India and is a creditable average fare.
