One of the most anticipated release(s) of the second half of the year, Imtiaz Ali’s Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer, JAB HARRY MET SEJAL, managed a good start at the multiplexes (35-40 percent). The single screens though were much lower (20-25 percent). The film did pick up further at the multiplexes during the latter shows, but, yet again (like in recent times) that consistently good all India start was missing.
The first day appears to be around the 16 crore mark. Based on the advance trend, the film should see a better day tomorrow, and a good weekend haul.
Having said that, given the genre and the character of the main protagonist (SRK plays a tourist guide based in Europe), it was never going to work in a big way with the single screen audience, and whatever it has managed (there) is a bonus, which makes the box-office battle for JAB HARRY MET SEJAL tricky. And to add to the woes, the reviews have not been all that positive!
Meanwhile, last week’s Anees Baazmee directed Anil-Arjun starrer, MUBARAKAN, managed a healthy first week, netting 35-36 crore. However, the film, despite decent patronage, had to yield a lot of screens to JAB HARRY MET SEJAL, and that will hamper its box-office prospects!
