Salman Khan's BODYGUARD is the latest addition to the saga of films around the world where a BODYGUARD falls in love with the person whom he or she is supposed to guard. It also underlines the fact that when it comes to love nothing comes in between. The most celebrated example in the real life underlining this premise is marriage of Madonna, the famous pop-singer to her BODYGUARD. In the world of Hindi cinema as well, stories based on love of BODYGUARD with the subject whom they are supposed to guard have made appearance on a regular basis. With Salman Khan's BODYGUARD releasing on the eve of Eid, it indeed is an opportune moment to run through such films which have been made in the world of cinema.
RAZIA SULTAN: When one talks of a Bodyguard falling in love with subject, probably character of Razia Sultan could be one of those historic characters that fell in love with her guard and Dharmendra in the role of Bodyguard was awesome. From the times of Egyptian history guards entering into wedlock or had close personal relationships with the subjects that they protected.
THE BODYGUARD: Even Hollywood acknowledged the fact that a bodyguard can fall in love and though it must have happened in Hollywood for quite a long time, it was in all probability that THE BODYGUARD highlighted this aspect. Kevin Costner playing the role of a bodyguard to Whitney Houston, and with the song, and 'I will always Love u' was the highlight of the film.
ANGRAKSHAK: It was the Hindi version of English film BODYGUARD where Sunny Deol was playing the role of bodyguard to Pooja Bhatt, but it could not make the waves in same proportions, as the songs of ANGRAKSHAK could not become a hit.
AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY: Yusuf Khan playing the role of a BODYGUARD to Parveen Babi and forcing the father of the girl to marry him to her again underlined the aspirations that bodyguard(s) develop during the course of their duty for their subjects.
BODYGUARD (Malayalam): BODYGUARD starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor is again a remake of 2010 Malayalam film by the same name. The director who directed it in Malayalam, i.e. Sidiquee is also directing the Hindi BODYGUARD as well.
DRONA: Here was another film where a lady bodyguard fell in love with her subject, the role of bodyguard in DRONA being played by Priyanka Chopra and her subject was Abhishek Bachchan,
AGNEEPATH: Mithun Chakraborty playing the role of a bodyguard to Neelam, kid sister of Big B was one of the highlights of the acting career of Mithun Chakraborty and it again underlined cinematically that the bodyguard(s) indeed catch the fancy of their subjects. It is altogether a different aspect that this role has been done away with in the new AGNEEPATH being remade by Karan Johar.
Such then being the illustrious history, most of the hunks of the present times indeed would be flexing their muscles to become the BODYGUARD of lovely ladies, what has to be seen in the real life is whether the lovely damsels would also like to take up this job for the male of the species.
