GOLMAAL 3 and the overriding influence of cinema from the past

How important is cinema in our daily lives, and how endearing are the characters which made their presence felt in a big way in the past, was evident when they were used as catalysts to take the narrative forward in GOLMAAL 3. Be it the " I am a Disco Dancer" act of Mithun Chakraborty or the reappearance of Prem Chopra in a small and miniscule role, but drawing maximum laughter from the audience, it again underlines the fact that the saga of cinema is all about characters and their portrayal.

Such has been the profound impact of these two actors of an era gone by, that even the next generation, which is the cinema going generation of the present times, and may not even have been borne, when these actors ruled the roost, enjoyed their enactments of role in GOLMAAL 3.

The theme of the film where the younger generation tries to play the match maker for their elders, who found its reverberation in a big way for the first time fleetingly in CHALTI KA NAAM GADI, evolved into a full-fledged story through BIN PHERE HUM TERE and KHATTA MEETHA. GOLMAL-3 has picked up its idea from these two films and has neatly packaged in such a manner that one may not be able to associate it prima facie with these two cinemas from the past. Well, the differential is in the form of packaging and the canvas, while in the two films from the past, i.e. KHATTA MEETHA and BIN PHERE HUM TERE, there were not big commercial stars to talk about, GOLMAAL-3 has literally who's who of the film industry, starring from Ajay Devgn to Kareena Kapoor, to even Mithun Chakraborty and even Ratna Pathak Shah.

Besides, GOLMAAL-3 is interlaced with Johny Lever's antics which relies heavily on mannerisms of character actors from the past and underlines the fact once again that the mastery of the craft which the actors from the past achieved, it being the sheer reason, why they still are remembered, is a clear pointer to the fact that quite a lot of homework has to be done by the actors of the present era to make an impact that their predecessors still continue to have on the minds of the audience from the present era.

May be, when GOLMAAL-4 is released next year, it could show case the mannerisms of the stars from the present era in a new package.
