From TANU WEDS MANU to RASCALS has indeed been a monumental step forward for Kangna Ranaut in her career as she gets a chance to be paired opposite two of the most successful stars at the box office, Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt. Kangna Ranuat has literally morphed from a simpleton in GANGSTER and more such films where the roles enacted by her were on the wrong side of being normal. RASCALS provide her with ample opportunity to display her histrionics in comedy, the trailer for which she had displayed in abundance in TANU WEDS MANU. Besides, her confidence of having arrived on the mainstream commercial cinema was evident from her enactment of the role in GAME as well.
For Kangna Ranaut indeed Ajay Devgn proved to be manna from heaven as it was her role in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI that pushed her into the A-category of films and RASCALS is a manifestation of a confident Kangna Ranaut who does not have any hesitancy to appear in a bikini as she has been shown through the promos of RASCALS. She already had flirted with bikini in KITES.
Appearing in a bikini as Kangna has done in RASCALS has a strange connotation for the world of Hindi cinema. Here an actress either appears in a bikini during the time of her debut films or films of revival as it was done by Dimple Kapadia both in BOBBY and in ZAKHMI SHER, or it is done in the middle of a career to give a sagging career a boost as it was done by even Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in DHOOM 2 . For Kangna Ranaut, however, the situation had not gravitated to a state where she may have to take recourse to bikini, but may be by choosing to appear in it in RASCALS; she wants to make a statement that she does not have any reservations about it when the star cast includes the likes of Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt. May be, the idea of appearing in a bikini could have been guided by the presence of these two stars, and to make her presence felt between them, she would have chosen a bikini as a channel vehicle.
Whatever is the case, Hindi cinema needs a lady comedian as well to add flavor to the comic palate and Kangna Ranaut has already shown it in abundance with TANU WEDS MANU (a sequel is already being contemplated for this hugely successful film) and with RASCALS she can emerge as a female actor with evolved timing for comedy. Who knows, David Dhawan could be thinking of making a sequel of RASCALS as well?
