Nargis Fakhri: The oldest female star to make debut in a romantic film

Hindi films have this tradition that when a new female face is introduced, she invariably has to be under twenty years of age, and in almost all the case it has happened as a matter of convention, aberrations also seldom coming to light. But if it is Imtiaz Ali, then unconventional has to be the norm. So for ROCKSTAR, he introduced to the world of Hindi cinema Nargis Fakhri , who is 31 years of age. It would be a record of sorts, as a Hindi film heroine has never been introduced on to the silver screen at such an age, for that matter, in all probability, the female face has not at all been introduced for any product launch at such an age.

One also needs to congratulate Nargis Fakhri that she has not hidden her age, as it is a wont with the female of the category per se, more so in the world of glamour and entertainment, and it seems to have become her USP as she has become the hottest model to endorse a product after being associated with a film aka ROCKSTAR, and has left Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone far behind. Reportedly, Nargis Fakhri has already an endorsement of more than 9 crores in her pocket, and she has to thank the character that she portrayed in ROCKSTAR for facilitating this manna from heaven.

May be it is the maturity of the age whereby she could play the character of a lady who even after getting married had the conviction not to forget her lover and even had the courage and the conviction to go along with him when she met him again. May be it is the international exposure and the association with the world of modeling which brings about the conviction to play a character of such kind. It however, does not mean that Nargis Fakhri is the first female character which still has aspirations for her former lover. It was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who had played this kind of character in HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM, the only difference between ROCKSTAR and HDDCS lay in the fact that ultimately Ash's character conformed to the norms of the Indian society for a girl of forgetting her lover after marriage, while Nargis Fakhri's character continues to have warm feelings for the love from the past.

May be, the time has now come for enactment of more such characters in the world of Hindi cinema, to project the actual realities of life, rather than focusing on candy floss goody- goody world.
