While PATIALA HOUSE may be touted as the film of Akshay Kumar, the gut feeling seems to be that it would be Anushka Sharma riding on the success wagon of BAND BAAJA BAARAAT, who could turn out to be the surprise element. Anushka indeed has been a lucky lass that from the time when she made her debut in RAB NE BANA DI JODI that in succession she has got the films in which she has played the effervescent Punjabi kudi. She has excelled in that as well, even though one of her films may have flopped. It was the effervescent manner in which she interprets her role that was the deciding factor in her favor to accord her the role of chief anchor in the Star Awards for the current year 2011.
For the first time in a long time Yash Raj banners would indeed be proud of their discovery as here is an actor who has made her mark based on her screen presence and performance. In one way or the other she reminds of Neetu Singh of the yore, the same sense of chutzpah, carefree bindaspan and tremendous screen presence that helps her stand her ground in the presence of constellation of stars. Indeed, the manner in which Neetu Singh could hold on to the role, inspite of other big shots acting in the film, same kind of trajectory can be mapped out in the career progression of Anushka Sharma as well.
Fortunately for her PATIALA HOUSE again is a film that is additional extension of her Punjabi act that she has been doing and as the saying goes the kudi from PATIALA are very sharp and also impactful is the Patiali Juti that they can take out at the drop of the hat.
One only hopes that riding on the success trajectory of Anushka Sharma, Akshay Kumar also gets a hit film in the form of PATIALA HOUSE that he has been desperately trying for. Coming as a curtain raiser to the ICC World Cup, PATIALA HOUSE, indeed has the potential to endure the Diaspora, more so the youth as it focuses on cricket as its biding theme. Cricket is one subject that has the potential to address even the Pakistani audience and one only hope that its success would indeed call for a PATIALA peg from all associated with it.
