One does not know whether it is a new fetish or what but ROBOT has also indulged into it. What one is talking about here is of the lead actors getting involved in the process of child birth on to the screen, thereby expanding their outreach among the female fraternity. The difference in ROBOT from other such films of the ilk was that here was a mechanical man in ROBOT who was involved in the action.
If one were to analyze the real reason behind it, there is no other reason that developing a sense of empathy among the audience about the issue of child birth as also to underline the pain and the trauma that a lady has to undergo. The underlining part being the fact that men folk understand the endurance of pain and change their approach in handling the issue.
It is a new element in Hindi cinema but its outreach being enormous actors are now treading into the hitherto unexplored area. ROBOT indeed provides an opportunity to go down the memory lane and bring into relief this moment of disruption in Hindi cinema which though has come late is being used imaginatively. Incidentally, for Hollywood as well, it still is an area that has been chartered infrequently.
SALAAM NAMASTE: It was the first film in the recent times where a lead actor makes his debut into the film through the labor ward, as it was done by Abhishek Bachchan. In the role of a doctor and approaching the whole issue clumsily, it was a refreshing approach to understanding the whole process. However, there was a sense of comics associated with the whole process, ala Charlie Chaplin and it could bring about relief comically to the whole process.
3 IDIOTS: Aamir Khan along with his gang of Idiots creating a temporary labor room with the help of Kareena Kapoor by leveraging the tools of technology underlined the fact that if there is an inclination and the awareness to use the tools of technology one can do it without having the technical devices at disposal. Aamir Khan's amusement about being associated with the whole process and the sense of bewilderment of the gang was indeed a point that also paved the way for these actors to make inroads into the hearts of the female friends.
In essence the Hindi cinema may be ridiculed for this experimentation but it is doing a yeomen's job to present the process in a rather simplified manner.
