Senorita, from ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA has set the heart of nation to dance to the care free tunes of Salsa on which the music of the film is based. The masti that Lillette Dubey has brought into the song is indeed, one of the rare occasions for Hindi cinema where a lady above fifty years of age has set the heart of the nation fluttering and has coaxed the country men to groove to its beats. Indeed, it has been one of the eponymous features of Hindi cinema that the songs having an ambience of club as the background, whenever they have been mixed and composed in an imaginative manner they have caught the imagination of the nation. The phenomenon had started with Madhubala doing the job in HOWRAH BRIDGE with Aaiye Meherban trying to serenade Ashok Kumar.
Senorita, incidentally was the title song that Justin Timberlake in 2003, which was one of the most popular songs of the time, and one does not know whether Senorita of ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA is a tribute to that famous song. Whatever be the case, Lillette Dubey has indeed shown what experience of working on the stage helps in giving a performance in cinema has she has done in this song. One does not know whether any such seductive songs have been picturized in the history of Hindi films on a female star of the same age as Lillette?
The sheer fact that it is a mix of Spanish and Hindi lyrics has not deterred the fans from imbibing and grooving to the song, primarily owing to the location and setting of the song. Set in one of the Spanish clubs, it oozes and pulsates with energy and life. The mixture of song as it has been used in ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA reminds one of the experiment of this kind when it had happened for the first time in the history of Indian cinema in all probability with THE GREAT GAMBLER, the song do lafzon ki hai, which was a mixture of Italian and Hindi. The only difference was that the song in THE GREAT GAMBLER had the male voice crooning in Italian while in ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA it is the female voice which serenades in Spanish. Another striking similarity is that in Do Lafzon ki hai, the song had a voice over by Big B while in case of Senorita; it is Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol who croon the song as playback singers.
One only hopes that along with the song the film also captures the imagination of the audience.
