This is why Jhund should be nominated for Oscars

Jhund is biographical sports film based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of NGO Slum Soccer. The film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Akash Thosar and Rinku Rajguru is written and directed by Nagraj Manjule is produced by Bhushan Kumar. Amitabh Bachchan plays a professor who motivates the street children to form a football team.

Based on the life of Vijay Barse, a retired sports teacher who founded an NGO called Slum Soccer. He managed to rehabilitate street lower caste kids by keeping them off drugs and crime by turning them into soccer players and building a whole team.

Amitabh Bachchan starrer Jhund that releases in theatres on March 4, 2022 is being applauded all over. This film outshines and showcases the true Jhund-work (read teamwork) that has gone in creating this masterpiece. Jhund has made a special place in the hearts of industry’s celebrated filmmakers and actors.

Recently, a Jhund of Indian filmmakers, Anurag Kashyap, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Milap Zaveri, Om Raut, Laxman Utekar, Inder Kumar, Mudassar Aziz, Tushar Hiranandani, Siddhartha Jadhav, Subhash Kapoor, Jitendra Joshi amongst others attended a special screening organized by the makers and expressed their views about the same.

Director Anurag Kashyap raved about Jhund by saying, “It is one of the best films I have watched in such a long time. Not only the film has moved me but it has left me energized. Jhund is going to create a pagalpan in the cinema. Nagraj has bowled over everyone and I think I need to go back to learning filmmaking again – Jhund is indeed a masterpiece!”

Director Om Raut expressed his views by saying, “Jhund is a film that shakes you – its not just entertaining but thought provoking film. All the departments, actors as well as the director have done an incredible job and their teamwork literally shows in the film. However, I would take this opportunity to thank Mr. Bhushan Kumar for supporting such story and producing a masterpiece like this – it is a story of India and on a humanitarian level it is a responsibility of bringing this to the audiences.”

Director Sandeep Vanga Reddy comments, “It’s a fantastic film that everyone should and must watch. I am spellbound after watching this incredible movie – this theme has been explored by many but the way Nagraj has treated is outstanding. Everyone in the film is new except Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan) and Nagraj has done a commendable job in bringing out the performances by the kids who are non-actors. When I was watching them in the film, not for a second I felt a fresh talent is performing but as if I am watching some superstar’s film.”

Director Milap Zaveri praised saying, “Jhund is an absolute masterpiece! Including Amit ji, each and every artist in the film all have given a remarkable performance. The way they’ve brought about the emotions – it is soul stirring. After Sairaat, Nagraj ji has again brought a masterpiece which I think audiences will watch.”

Director Inder Kumar said, “Jhund is a beautiful film and a really truly inspiring tale! Everyone must watch it!”

Director Laxman Utekar says, “It’s a mind-blowing piece! I truly believe the masterpiece Nagraj has made should be nominated for Oscars – the way every character, every emotion has been portrayed it is commendable. Hats off to the entire team, this film is a masterpiece!”

Director Mudassar Aziz states, “There are very few films in which you cannot control your emotions – it makes you realize about the country you belong to, about the immense opportunities one has but chances to prove yourself are very few and Jhund is one of the film that sheds light on this very subject. While I am a fan of Nagraj’s work, this film has moved me. Heartiest congratulation to Bhushan ji as well as Nagraj ji who have done a great job on this.”

Film writer Tushar Hiranandani says, “Watching Jhund is like a roller coaster ride! Right from storyline, to performances by Amit ji, the kids – it is commendable! Even the songs, music, the background score by Ajay-Atul strikes the right chords! camera work by Sudhar Reddy is fantastic. Its not a film but a celebration in itself.”

Director Subhash Kapoor says, “According to me, Jhund is a robust film and in last ten years no film has been made at least in Hindi film industry at this altitude. I have watched all films by Nagraj and he is indeed a gem to Indian film industry!”

Actor Siddharth Jadhav says, “Superb, Jhund is absolutely superb! Like always Nagraj Manjule yet again makes us proud with his masterpiece. Mr Bachchan has performed beyond and how and the Jhund (teamwork) is showing. The music by Ajay-Atul was sensational. I would like to congratulate Nagraj for this heart-touching movie.”

JHUND releases in cinemas on 4th March 2022. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Savita Raj Hiremath, Raaj Hiremath, Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, Gargee Kulkarni, Meenu Aroraa & Sandeep Singh, under the banner of T-Series, Tandav Films Entertainment & Aatpat.
