‘Too much competition in the Hindi film
industry is a good thing’

Navdip Singh, who makes his debut in Khwaabb, gets talking about his film, actresses he wants to work with, his mantra in life and more in this chat with

How did you decide to get into acting from sports?
It’s the other way round. I’ve been acting since childhood, I grew up doing theatre, drama classes, various acting workshops, short films & I am a professional actor from the Barry John acting studio – Mumbai. So if anything, I went from acting – to playing tennis for a while to fulfill that passion & I think it’s a brilliant sport.

Did you have to struggle to get your first break?

Not a struggle. The journey before KHWAABB has been challenging, I would say. Enjoyed it. (Smiles)

‘Acting is inside the heart & tennis is close to heart’

Is KHWAABB your ‘dream’ (pun intended) role?

Honestly speaking, I don’t have any such ‘type’ dream role that is superior to the other. Whatever roles I choose like KHWAABB will all be my dream roles. My approach is to learn & hear from the audience whether a role I performed was a dream to watch or not. I’ll go as far as saying I have a soft spot for Amitabh Bachchan’s SHAHENSHAH role & would dream dive into it if there was a remake to be made.

Sports or acting – which is more close to you?
Acting is inside the heart & tennis is close to heart. Acting first and then tennis/sports follows.

Do you think there is too much competition in the Hindi film industry now?
Yes I think so & it’s a good thing.

You met Salman Khan recently. Did he give you any tips?
He encouraged me saying ‘Dream big, but to work bigger & to work harder than the dream itself’.

Any directors you would like to work with?
List is endless but the names that pop in at moment Zoya Akhtar, Aditya Chopra, Anurag Kashyap, Anurag Basu, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Vikas Bahl, Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra, Rajkumar Hirani … Goes on. (Smiles)

What is your mantra in life?
It’s very cliched but a one that works. ‘Live & let live’.

‘It would be fun to work with everybody – new, current & the ones established’

In the younger lot, which are the actresses you want to work with?

It would be fun to work with everybody – new, current & the ones established for a longer time. Shraddha, Alia, Jacqueline, Katrina , Parineeti, Deepika, Rani, Shilpa… list goes on.

What are your future projects? Have you signed any other films?

I am looking at some interesting scripts, fingers crossed. Right now, looking forward to the response of KHWAABB.

Anything else which you want to say?
Yes…Dare to dream & dare to watch KHWAABB.
