Your line up of films has been few and far between. Is there any particular reason for it?
I have to be convinced before taking up a project. A lot of factors play a role in shaping my decision. The script is of utmost importance. The kind of role I play is of vital importance too as I have to see myself fitting in. I also pay heed to the people making it as the comfort factor goes a long way to create a good working atmosphere, and that in turn helps in bringing out the best in me.
Is there any particular genre you prefer, like action, comedy or romance?
To be honest, as an actor you have to be ready to play all kinds of role and I would love to prove myself as a versatile actor, though I have a soft spot for intense emotional dramas.
Given a choice between a commercial and art film, which would you prefer?
I wouldn’t mind dabbling in both. Today the lines between the two have blended and the audience is more accepting of them. If a film is good, even if it is ‘art’, I will take it up. Today’s cine-goers are more concerned about the story than the star.
Can you tell me a bit about your role in PLAYERS?
Well all I’m permitted to say is that I play a Muslim Pakistani. My characters name is Bilal and it’s an interesting intense role I play in the film. I will call it one of my best performances till date. Watch it to know more.
How was it working with Abbas-Mastan?
They are phenomenal. I was a bit nervous at the beginning but they put me totally at ease. What amazed me was that they treated everyone equally, right from the spot boys, technicians, security, and crew to the stars. They are the nicest people I have had the opportunity to meet and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to work with them.

Do you have any more films in the pipe line?
I have two projects coming up for which shooting will commence early next year.
What are your expectations from PLAYERS?
The film is a total knockout entertainer. It has the signature style of Abbas Mustan and everyone knows what to expect of their film. It is racy, fast paced and a full power action ride. I had a blast shooting it. I hope the audience enjoys it as much as I enjoyed working in it.
How was it working with old pal Abhishek Bachchan?
This is my second film with Abhishek. He is like my older brother and I give him due respect, though we have our back slapping fun. He can be quite a riot and I love him. Abhishek, Omi, Bipasha and I bonded really well during the making of this film and we spent a lot of time together after pack up jogging, going out for outings and dinners together. It makes shooting a blast when you have a great team.
