Immediate reaction when the end credits roll
You have seen Nawazuddin Siddiqui ‘playing’ a range of characters, what happens when he ‘underplays’ a mainstream simpleton?. Answer – it’s fun.

The Story of MOTICHOOR CHAKNACHOOR
Annie (Athiya Shetty) desires to settle abroad and is in the lookout for someone who can take this desi tall and beautiful bala to videsh. So, Annie keeps on rejecting proposals lined up by her parents. A 36 year old simpleton from Dubai Pushpinder (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) enters into the neighborhood of Annie. Pushpinder is desperate to get married and has no demands.

Pushpinder’s mother (Vibha Chibber) is hoping to get a fat dowry from his son’s Dubai tag that can fill her bags reserved for her daughter's marriage. Unable to get a perfect foreign match, Annie’s aunt (Karuna Pandey) advises her to woo Pushpinder and realize her dreams by getting married to her and settling in Dubai.

Writer-Director Debamitra Biswal along with co-writer Bhupendra Singh "meghvrat" establish the milieu of the heartland and the Bundelkhand dialect is done with proper understanding. Sprinkled by smart one liner’s and funny giggles, MOTICHOOR CHAKNACHOOR makes a subtle attempt at commenting on dowry, the fascination of Indians towards anything that is foreign, prejudices related to marriage, etc. it’s light and easy most of the times with Nawazuddin Siddiqui giving the magnificent veteran Amol Palekar his own quirky twist. He underplays the 36 years NRI looking for a bride and has a couple of scenes that are a stealer.

Athiya Shetty as the outspoken tall and beautiful girl next door also has her moments and it’s commendable to see her stand with the genius of Nawazuddin Siddiqui with confident and ease.

Karuna Pandey as Athiya Shetty’s auntie stands out. Navni Parihar as Athiya Shetty’s mother is fabulous. Vibha Chibber as Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s mother is strong. Bhumika Dube as Hema has her moments and Usha Nagar as Dadi impresses as well.

Flaws
Cursed by the irregular and predictable second half, MOTICHOOR CHAKNACHOOR almost turns suicidal with its lack of continuity, drama and required humor. MOTICHOOR CHAKNACHOOR had the potential of turning into a rare funny satire on marriage and dowry but alas it ends as a passable rom-com. Still, going with an extra for the performances and the giggling first half.
