No amount of extra a's could have saved PREM KAA GAME which has been rotting in the cans for close to 3 years. Earlier titled 'Shaadi Ke After Effects' (or was it 'Shaadi Ke Side Effects'?), the film was completed ages back and found reasonable buzz coming its way back then when it was touted as an Arbaaz Khan – Maliaka Arora Khan starrer. This was the first time when the couple was supposed to be coming on the big screen together and this made for a good promotional peg.
Well, as it happened, the film got stuck and while there was continuous tension prevailing amongst its director Indrajith Lankesh and producer Ashok Kheny, the former found his way getting stuck from the credit list. Not that the audience cared as even the people associated with the film moved on. No wonder, everyone from Arbaaz Khan, Malaika Arora to Tara Sharma kept their distance from this film which has suddenly been revived and thrown amidst dozens of releases which are arriving fast (and leaving faster) this IPL.
The only actor who was still interested? Newcomer Madhuri Bhattacharya, for whom this was always meant to be a big break in Bollywood, courtesy her femme fatale act in PREM KAA GAME. She is the kind of neighbour who could be the dream of any man, whether married or unmarried. No wonder, Arbaaz Khan falls in 'prem' while being unlike the namesake character that his real life brother has played in perhaps half a dozen films by now.
So while Salman Khan has been known for his 'one woman' stand that he has adopted every time on screen, Arbaaz doesn't quite mind being strayed. Now the hitch here is that he is pretty much married and while his wife (Tara Sharma) knows how to take care of his house, Arbaaz is definitely looking for greener pastures with someone else taking care of him.
Does all this sound anything new and enticing? Naaah. All of this is as predictable and pass? as it gets and while 'straying in marriage' may have been presented in a comical manner here, the roots can be found all the way back in 1980. Remember Sanjiv Kumar, Ranjeeta and Vidya Sinha who played similar characters in far more subtle and a clean family entertainer – PATI PATNI AUR WOH?
Nevertheless, the times have changed and hence the seduction quotient has moved a few notches higher up as well. So newbie Madhuri doesn't quite hesitate in scorching the screen with her glamorous act in PREM KAA GAME. Does that work? Yes, it does but when in totality PREM KAA GAME doesn't have much to offer, the glam factor in isolation doesn't really make the cut.
And well, why this gimmick of HUM SAATH SAATH HAI family show in PREM KAA GAME? With a wife (Malaika) as a dream girl and a brother (Salman) as a narrator, Arbaaz may well have thought of PREM KAA GAME as a good stepping stone for a solo hero act. Nothing wrong in the intentions; after all he has been around for a decade and a half and can be expected get ambitious. However, in the times when he too has moved on and now turned producer with DABANGG, Arbaaz can well be expected to cringe in his seat while dancing along with Malaika to the tune of a song that goes as 'I Wanna Fa Fa Fa…..'.
