All in all Satyameva Jayate 2 is a clean massy family entertainer with its heart in the right place

John Abraham starrer Milap Milan Zaveri’s ‘Satyameva Jayate 2’ is a vigilante action film on the fight against injustice and misuse of power or corruption. It is an official sequel of the 2018 film Satyameva Jayate in spirit. The crux of the narrative is how the protagonist(s) want to wipe out corrupt & corruption and the process therein.

Satyameva Jayate 2 has all the elements of a vigilante story clubbed with patriotic fervour and everything in between. Picture this sequence (spoiler alert) which could represent the tone of the film. A (group of) guy tries to molest a girl at an independence day event. A police officer steps in just-in-time and bashes up the bad guys. In the meanwhile the National Anthem starts playing and the officer gets into the ‘attention’ position. This is when the bad guys start hitting him with everything under the sun with no reaction from the officer. He reacts only post the Anthem with a dialogue saying, “tan, man, dhan se pehle jana gana mana”, and bashes them again. I have purposely skipped the spice in between too.

Satyameva Jayate 2 is about the ‘Azaad’ family – Vijay Singh Azaad and his sons Satya and Jay (all three played by Johan Abraham) that has vowed to remove/wipe of corrupt/corruption, “ya toh bhrashtaachaar mitega ya hamara lahoo bahega.” In between we get this ‘Shahenshah’ type feeling (by hiding his real identity) when a character turns vigilante and does a tit-for-tat to the wrong doers.

The narrative is about the three lead characters, how they face the corrupt or wrong doers and give it back to them. The vigilante brothers deal with various issues like doctors strike in Government Hospitals, food poisoning cases in schools, reprimanding irresponsible government officials who are deputed to deal with pension dues and those responsible for the collapse of a flyover. They also bring to book those responsible for the rape of a young woman. There are fiery dialogues with a speech right in the beginning of the film.

With dialogues like, “Chhappan kilo ka jigar nahin, chhappan kilo ka hathoda chahiye…”, “Tan, man, dhan se badkar, Jana, gana, mana…, “Maa ki kokh, baap ki top…” and many more such lines, the writers seem to be catering to an audience of a different era. The lines are overtly dramatic and verbose.

Satyameva Jayate 2 could be a film to watch out specially for hardcore John Abraham fans. There is John Abraham written all over with loads of (so-to-say) patriotic and ‘thought provoking’ dialogues (that could get seetis in some centres) and gravity defying action. John has used all the opportunity to showcase his pumped up physique.

Divya Khosla Kumar, who plays John’s wife and politician, makes a decent acting comeback after ‘Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo’ in 2004.

Other characters include Harsh Chhaya as a Minister, Anup Soni as Inspector, Gautami Kapoor plays Prachi Singh Azaad (Azaad’s wife; Satya and Jay’s mother) in their respective roles are perfunctory in their acts. As seasoned actors, they do not add any nuances to their characters.

There are also Jass Manak as himself performing at a function in the song ‘Tenu Lehanga’ and Nora Fatehi in a special appearance as Dilruba in the song ‘Kusu Kusu’.

True to the film’s positioning, Satyameva Jayate 2 is a very massy film as expressed by John Abraham in an interaction where he revealed that “‘Satyameva Jayate 2’ is made for the mass audience and not for the niche. People who buy tickets, go to the theatres, especially the audience of single-screen theatres in a small town, (who) are not bothered about the reviews and critical explanation. They want entertainment. That is why their enthusiasm is also reflected in the box-office collection…”

All in all Satyameva Jayate 2 is a clean massy family entertainer with its heart in the right place. A few dialogues could become catchphrase too for some.
