ZERO movie review is here, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif, the Aanand L Rai directed movie is the most highly awaited SRK starrer till date. Is Shah Rukh Khan as Bauua Singh the ‘Hero’ we are looking for?, find out in the movie review of ZERO.
How is Shah Rukh Khan as dwarf?
It must be said that Shah Rukh Khan has made the bravest move of his illustrated 26 year old career by choosing to play the role of a vertically challenged man in ZERO. The superstar as the 4ft.6inch Bauua Singh is charmingly hilarious right from the word go.. Shah Rukh Khan’s entry is a rare LOL moment.
Best Moment of ZERO?
Shah Rukh Khan as Bauua Singh dancing to Sashi Kapoor’s iconic song Humko Tum Pe Pyaar Aaya from JAB JAB PHOOL KHILE sung by Mohammed Rafi – paisa vasool!!.
Best romantic moment in ZERO?
A movie starring SRK is an orphan if there is no romance. Bollywood’s King of Romance Shah Rukh Khan can romance even a stone and make it look convincing. The song Mere Naam Tu with Anushka Sharma shows Srk at his best.
What is the story of ZERO?
The basic plot line is as simple and routine as your daily breakfast of milk and cereals or Idli Sambhar/puri bhaji to that matter. Bauua Singh (Shah Rukh Khan) is a vertically challenged man living in Meerut. A huge fan of Bollywood actress Babita Kumari (Katrina Kaif), the 38 year old Bauua is a happy go lucky chap, with a dash of arrogance. He fools around the streets of Meerut with his best pal Guddu (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) and desires to get married one day and dreams about Babita Kumari 24×7. One day he meets renowned scientist Aafia Bhinder (Anushka Sharma) who is challenged by the disease of cerebral palsy. They meet, fall in love and are about to get married, just before marriage, Bauua’s dream Babita Kumari enters his city and things take dramatic and surreal turns.
Aanand L Rai’s trusted weapon, writer Himanshu Sharma (TANU WEDS MANU, RAANJHANAA, TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS) fails to get the required winning sweep as expected. The first half is crowd pleasingly funny, making a promise of enthralling second half that takes a leap but surreal absurdity takes over when Bauua Singh meets Aafia again at a space research centre in America. Without getting labeled as a spoiler, I conclude by saying that a chimpanzee plays an important cameo in this movie. Writer Himanshu Sharma after a cracker of a first half goes haywire and the damage gets out of control and defies logic.
Anushka Sharma as scientist Aafia Bhinder who is challenged by the disease of cerebral palsy is a role that any actor will travel miles to grab it. Anushka does it with tremendous aplomb. Her dialogue delivery, mannerisms, the scene where she lifts a pen and her silent moment with Shah Rukh Khan is sheer class.
Katrina Kaif as Babita Kumari gives all the oomph it requires. Katrina nails it with supreme confidence. Her entry is a truly whistle blowing moment.
Chemistry between Srk, Anushka and Katrina after JAB TAK HAI JAAN?
Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif are coming together after JAB TAK HAI JAAN and their chemistry in ZERO is more mass oriented and certainly different.
How has Aanand L Rai directed ZERO?
In ZERO Aanand L Rai has tried to be over ambitious and aimed at the sky. Interestingly, the filmmaker uses his known template to achieve the goal, like RAANJHANAA and TANU WEDS MANU series, there is a love triangle, and for a twist, instead of bride, the groom wants to run away from the wedding to meet his lover. Actually, ZERO as a love story between Shah Rukh Khan as a vertically challenged man and Anushka Sharma as scientist suffering from cerebral palsy in itself opens so many gates for a filmmaker to explore. Aanand L Rai’s has an ambition in mind but it seems his heart is ruled by populist and safe love triangles set in hinterland. Like his previous films, the milieu is just perfect over here to. Aanand L Rai looses it in the second half and the ambition turns bizarre.
Other strong points apart from SRK, Anushka, Katrina?
The performances, It’s the performances be it from the lead or supporting cast like Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub as SRK’s friend, father played by Tigmanshu Dhulia, mother played by Sheeba Chaddha, all are excellent.
Ajay Atul comes up with one humming number Mere Naam Tu while the rest of the songs are functional.
Manu Anand does a splendid job and gives us an eye pleasing world of Bauua Singh. Wasiq Khan production is apt. Special mention for the VFX done by Red Chilies in shortening the height of SRK. However, Hemal Kothari’s editing needs a lot to be desired.
The second half gets bizarre frame by frame and the movie become tedious to watch. Appears lengthy and it turn out to be an unending saga that test the patience of the audience. Talents like R. Madhavan and Brijendra Kala are wasted.
Is SRK as dwarf in ZERO better than Kamal Hassan in APPU RAJA?
Honestly, King Khan Shah Rukh Khan as dwarf is powered by technology, though SRK is terrific and downright hilarious, the technology has played an important role. 29 years ago, Kamal Haasan in APOORVA SAGODHARARGAL (1989), APPU RAJA Hindi title, attached special shoes to the folded knees, stood in trench to cover up his legs from the feet to knees, to get the conviction without computer generated technologies.
How long is Salman Khan’s cameo in ZERO and how it is?
The much publicized cameo of SRK and Salman Khan in ZERO adds to the appeal and should make the masses happy but it comes all of a sudden and the wow factor is missing
What about cameos of Abhay Deol, Alia Bhatt, Karisma Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Deepika Padukone, Kajol in ZERO?
The cameos of Abhay Deol, Alia Bhatt, Karisma Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Deepika Padukone and Kajol in ZERO is forced and unwanted.
Most touchy moment in ZERO?
Watching Sridevi on the big screen for the last time is the touchiest moment in ZERO.
Most bizarre moment in ZERO?
When the chimpanzee says goodbye to SRK and the climax
Is ZERO worth watching?
It’s a must for diehard Srkians, as Shah Rukh Khan has never been so daring and hilarious in his career. Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif come with some strong performance to add power to the movie and reduce its glaring flaws which are visible after every minute during the second half. The movie is a test of patience and demands great degree of suspension of disbelief. But like those dimples on that smiling face, Shah Rukh Khan as Bauua Singh leaves a lasting impression. Watch it for SRK. Going with three stars in generosity, an extra for King Khan Shah Rukh Khan.
