Believe it or not but for the makers of GORI TERE PYAAR MEIN, it was much easier to get Kareena Kapoor on board than Imran Khan. This is when they had worked with Imran Khan on I HATE LUV STORYS, a film that had brought back in the hit scheme of things.

“It is a known fact that there was quite a roller coaster ride to get a leading man for GORI TERE PYAAR MEIN. Punit Malhotra was sure that after I HATE LUV STORYS, he would manage to bring Imran in for GORI TERE PYAAR MEIN. Producer Karan Johar was okay with the idea too. However, Imran had many reservations about the film’s script and after some deliberation, he politely said no. The script then moved to Shahid Kapoor amongst other heroes but things didn’t really work out for Punit and Karan,” informs a source.
Apparently, one of the top actors approached for the film even questioned Punit on whether he could guarantee him a 100 crore success with GORI TERE PYAAR MEIN, something that left the filmmaker puzzled since the film’s theme and setting didn’t really set the platform for such benchmarks.
“Well, I don’t want to name anyone here but then it wasn’t as dramatic as it sounds,” smiles Punit, “Aisa kuch nahi tha. Yes, I did go to other actors after Imran but there was no such 100 crore talk anywhere.”

He admits that the waiting period was a tad frustrating since he had earlier believed that mounting his next film after the success of I HATE LUV STORYS would be on a quicker note.
“Yes, it was heart burning,” Punit brings on a smile here, “But then in a way this time period was a blessing in disguise. It gave me time to reflect on the script. I worked on 200 odd drafts and then eventually when I took it back to Imran, he gave it a go ahead. Call it an ego trip but I am happy about the fact that eventually I managed to get that hero on board who was always my first choice.”
Now one looks forward to the eventual product justifying the journey as well.
