Not only Mahendra Singh Dhoni, but cricketers like Virat Kohli, Saurav Ganguly and ‘God of Indian Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar too have been co-owners of various teams in the league, apart from Bollywood celebs like Ranbir Kapoor, John Abraham, Parineeti Chopra, Hrithik Roshan among others.
Probe Abhishek whether it is a deliberate move to involve celebrities so as to attract more audience and he reveals, “Having celebrities on board is not going to hurt. If we can become a medium to get more attention for the sport, then I am more than happy to do that. At the end sport wins.”
He further adds, “By celebrities I just don’t mean Bollywood actors but even Cricketers like Saurav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar, who have been my sporting idols. I absolutely love them.”
Ask him about his Chennaiyin FC co-owner Mahendra Singh Dhoni and he admits, “Mahi is one of my favourite sportsmen. He is a human being I have huge amount of respect for. I first met him on the sets of DOSTANA. He used to hang out with John and me. Mahi is an exemplary human being and a great leader.”
