It was indeed a very ‘mangal’ Independence day (Rakshabandhan as well) for Bollywood as the two major and much anticipated releases, Akshay Kumar’s MISSION MANGAL and John Abraham’s BATLA HOUSE, have turned out to be winning propositions.
Though it did appear to be a one sided battle with Akshay Kumar’s MISSION MANGAL likely to decimate the John Abraham starrer comprehensibly on the first day, but BATLA HOUSE did pick up steam and consolidated its position.
As far as number crunching is concerned, during the extended 8-day week MISSION MANGAL has netted 125 crore and is a super hit while BATLA HOUSE has crossed the 60 crore mark and is all set emerge as at least a semi hit if not a hit.
As far as the overseas run is concerned it is a one horse race with Akshay Kumar’s MISSION MANGAL already crossing the $2m mark in the US till August 22.
In fact as we pen this column, both MISSION MANGAL and BATLA HOUSE have seen a decent jump in their collections on the second Friday (as compared to Thursday) and so the ‘mangal’(or merry) run is bound to continue!
