While the shoot was delayed because of Paul Walker’s sudden demise, Ali maintained that most of the part was shot with Paul.
”A major part was shot in September with Paul,” Ali said and added about his experience working with the late star, ”Paul was a lovely person to be with. Paul’s demise sent a shock wave among the entire team. He has been always my favourite actor. It was great sharing screen with him. Most of my dialogues are with Mr. Walker. I feel privileged to have worked with him.”
Asked Ali what interested him taking up FAST & FURIOUS 7, despite having a cameo appearance and he plainly stated, ”I am not looking for appreciation here. I have done this film for myself. My entire point doing this film was to see the way they direct and make their films larger-than-life. Despite the presence of biggest of stars they won’t leave their professionalism. It’s a kind of role anyone would want to do it for once. I have grown up watching FAST & FURIOUS series.”
Further he added, ”Moreover, the seventh installment of FAST & FURIOUS is directed by James Wan, who’s known for churning out horror films. His THE CONJURING, the most scary film, and INSIDIOUS are exemplary. Noone have been able to achieve that. The film brings the legendary actors like Kurt Rusell, Paul Walker and others together. It’s a fresh take.”
While Ali portrayed the young college dude in his last three films FUKREY, ALWAYS KABHIE KABHIE and 3 IDIOTS, in FAST & FURIOUS 7 Ali would be seen in a different avatar. He said, ”Yes, it’s completely different from my earlier characters. The language, accent, my get-up everything is different here.”
FAST & FURIOUS is renowned for its races and stunts. But, unfortunately this time around the film isn’t about racing and all. ”No, I don’t have races. This time around you would witness less of racing and stunts. But the film promises lot of other interesting stuff and it will be taken to another level. So wait and watch for it,” Ali disclosed.
When we quizzed Ali about Bollywood’s certain craze of doing Hollywood flicks, even though it’s a minuscule role, he replied candidly, ”It’s very much like a Hollywood hero doing a brief role here. So for them I am a guest in their movies unless it’s tailor-made role. Hollywood is way ahead of us and has good cinema to offer. Our perception is wrong. Even Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt do cameos in their industry. But if they do it here people will start assuming that they are short of work. In India we are set up and brought up that way, so can’t help it.”
Meanwhile, Ali has wrapped-up his Vidya Balan starrer BOBBY JASOOS and now looking forward to start his film with Rohan Sippy.
