2014 stays on to be a mighty interesting year for Alia Bhatt. She started off with an unconventional HIGHWAY, got very good commercial success with 2 STATES and is now all set to go out and out massy with HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA.

Guess she is playing a good balancing game between offbeat and commercial cinema with some middle of the road stories thrown in as well.
“The way I look at it, the very genre of commercial or art film is not really required,” says Alia, “My aim is to do a good film. If I would like to see a film offered to me as an audience, I do it. If I fit into a role and I can get out of it with certain maturity, I do it. For me, commercial film is the one which is loved and in this aspect, each of my films, right from STUDENT OF THE YEAR and now HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA is commercial.”

While with STUDENT OF THE YEAR she had reached out to urban youth, with HIGHWAY she was catering to those looking for niche cinema, especially the multiplex hopping junta. As for 2 STATES, she yet again reached out to the urban audience, though in a much wider manner. Now with HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA, she is looking at a pan-Indian appeal which traverses multiplex as well as single screen audience in A, B and C centers.
“I want to bring in this Indian element so that people in Patna, Lucknow, Delhi as well as Mumbai can feel connected. If that works out, I would of course feel a certain sense of happiness at the end of the day. That is what I aspire for,” she says.
We would look forward to that once this Karan Johar production, which has Varun Dhawan as her on-screen partner, releases all over on 11th July.
