BLACKMAIL, AKSAR, AGGAR, THE TRAIN were some of the films that famous producer Shyam Bajaj’s son Varun Bajaj co-produced in the past. And now Varun is gearing up for his first big commercial venture ALL IS WELL, which is directed by Umesh Shukla (OMG! OH MY GOD fame).
Varun and Umesh have known each other for a long time. Their association dates back when Umesh made his debut film DHOONDTE REH JAAOGE (around six years ago), produced by Varun’s father Shyam Bajaj. In fact, Umesh joined hands with Varun for ALL IS WELL way before OMG! OH MY GOD happened.
Varun reveals how he came on board for ALL IS WELL, “Umeshji did his first DHOONDTE REH JAAONGEY with dad. That’s how we met him around 5-6 years ago. It’s been a very long time. Basically, Umesh Shukla signed on with us way before OMG! OH MY GOD started. We always wanted to do a film together and OMG! OH MY GOD happened in the interim for him and things also went on a very positive note. Later, he wanted to a do film with us. So we met Bhushan ji (Bhushan Kumar of T-Series) and Abhishek and everything fell in place.”
Since ALL IS WELL talks about father-son relationship essayed by Rishi Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan respectively in the film, Varun says how family-driven subjects (example PIKU) and stories based on relationship always do well.
“It’s a film about family and relationship. It will leave you thinking. ALL IS WELL highlights family values and relationship which is a very important thing in our society. If you have seen PIKU and other films that have done great in the recent past, they all talked about family bond,” says the producer and adds, “Family-driven subjects are liked by all. There is no time or place or era or trend for such subjects. At any point of time, stories regarding families and relationship will always do well.”
Being a producer, did Varun have a separate choice of actors in ALL IS WELL? “Filmmaking is a very joint effort. Everyone gives in their inputs and have collective ideas but at the end of the day caption of the ship is always Umesh ji. He always envisioned Rishi Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan as father-son in ALL IS WELL. He always had them in mind while making the film,” says Varun.
ALL IS WELL marks the first collaboration of Varun Bajaj and T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar. Probe Varun if making an alliance with T-Series was a strategic decision, as the banner is really doing well currently and he says, “It’s been fantastic. Bhushanji has been very supportive. He has been a great producer. When two people have same vision, it becomes much easier during the making of the film. There is no strategy as such. Sometimes things just fall in place. I think dad and Bhushanji wanted to do a film together for a long time. All our films’ audio has been on T-series. So for this project everything happened at the right time and right place.”
Also starring Supriya Pathak and Asin, ALL IS WELL is all set to hit the screens on August 21, 2015.
