Anees Bazmee the writer, director, story teller of the masses needs no introduction. Surprisingly, the maverick maintains a low profile and is shy in talking about his wonderful achievements. In the industry since more than three decades Anees has shaped many blockbusters as writer/director before the advent of the so called 100 core club with PYAAR TO HONA HI THA, followed by NO ENTRY, WELCOME, WELCOME BACK, SINGH IS KING etc. His PAGALPANTI starring John Abraham and Anil Kapoor in main lead is getting filmed and the sequel of BHOOL BHULAIYYA – BHOOL BHULAIYYA 2 with Kartik Aaryan and Paresh Rawal is announced.
Sitting calm and composed in his Mumbai office, Anees Bazmee is discussing the future course of action of his upcoming projects. Taking some valuable time out from his busy schedule, the maverick writer, director or say the entertainer in an exclusive interview shares something that will make the upcoming writers rejoice and filled with hope. Anees Bazmee is coming up with a forum/platform for upcoming writers that will not only nurture them and act as a mentor, it will provide the talented writers a gateway for opening where their stories will be read, discussed and even bought/sold to the right buyers at the right price.
Over to Anees Bazmee
“It’s time to give it back to the industry that has given me so much” says Anees son of poet Abdul Hameed 'Nerang' Bazmee, who started as a dialogue writer around 83, 84.
‘Writing was in my blood’ he says, Anees learned the arc from a process of self learning, “ I became an ardent student, started reading books – books that enhance your screen writing skills, watched cinema from all over the world, it took around 5 – 6 years to graduate from a dialogue writer to a screen play writer. I wrote my first movie SWARG starring Rajesh Khanna and Govinda in 1990 and people started talking,.. A column on me was written with the title – A writer has arrived”.
However, the instant recognition from the very first movie as a screen writer didn,t yield rich dividends, Anees sharing the harsh reality of the industry where writers are exploited, he says, “ For 20 – 25 years I didn,t get much money, I was naïve about this and wrote movies that offered me peanuts”. Adding further Anees says, “Writers are many times found on the receiving end and complaints of not getting their worth from makers is common. In my opinion Salim Javed are the one who were paid according to their worth they have done a lot. The copyright thing is just an example. There are very few writers who are paid according to their worth. Many talented writers are underpaid. I was one of them”.
The issue of writers not getting their true worth gave birth to this writers forum initiative, sharing about this Anees says, “ My platform – the website which I am going to launch in coming days will weigh the talents of writers in true sense. We will not just mentor, monitor their script, will go beyond, will help in finance, creative etc. writers who have submitted their scripts can talk to me, discuss with me and whatever I have learned and learning in my journey which is now more than three decades old, I am ready to share it all with the upcoming new talents”.
When quipped on the eligibility/criteria to send a story to Anees Bazmee’s writer’s forum, Annes elatedly adds, “Anyone who has a story to say is welcome. It’s not just Bollywood or India. It’s for the entire world. The story/script has to be registered with a recognized writers association anywhere from the world. We have a body of people having vast experience in content writing/development and the process goes through four different filters and when content passes the said parameter, it’s then made available to the right buyer.”
Elaborating more on the filters/stages, Annes gladly says, “ The story must be registered through a recognized writer association anywhere in the globe. Nowadays all recognized writer associations are online. So if you mentioned the receipt number of the registration, you come to know about the status of the story. The registered story with the proper copyright then gets into the reading stage and then the creative followed by the investment stage.”
And it’s going to happen very soon, Annes adds, “In coming days we will be launching the website and when it goes on air, you can send your story anytime.
Suppose, if today night you came across of an idea/ story get it registered and send it to us, our team will be working on it as soon as possible for you. “
( This is part one of the discussion, next week we will trace the journey of Annes Bazmee as a writer/filmmaker and his understanding of cinema). Stay tuned…
