I am keen to sing with A.R. Rahman. That will be dream come true. I am trying to meet Mr. Rahman and soon I will get my work across him. And in singers, I want to sing a duet with Sonu Nigam because I am his biggest fan. I am working hard towards it. I know Sonu very well. In fact, he was to come for my album launch but last moment he couldn’t make it. But he has heard all the songs from my album and he told me that he has loved them all. So that itself is a big compliment because it is coming from him.
Your family has been in the film fraternity for quite some time now. Did that help you get the big break?
I think coming from a family which belongs to the film fraternity gets you to the door but getting in and proving yourself is your talent and passion towards what you want to do. It surely does help since my family is involved in the industry and they do have connections. So getting inside is easy but then you have to prove yourself because if you fall flat, then after that no one will give you a second chance. Everything boils down to proving your talent and potential. So coming from a star family is an advantage as well as disadvantage.
Who according to you is the best singer in Bollywood currently?
I think everyone knows that. It is Arijit Singh. He shot to fame with ‘Tum Hi Ho’ and it is always the one song which gives you the fame. But the consistency after that one song is what matters the most. Arijit has got some great songs after ‘Tum Hi Ho’ as well and that according to me has got him where he is today. I think he is one of the biggest singers that has happened to Bollywood in recent times.
So do you consider Arijit Singh as your competitor or big brother?
I think everyone is competition in this industry. It could be Arijit or someone who is younger to me as well. But I know Arijit very well. He is very down to earth. All of us are in the same industry and we are like family, we are friends. But it won’t be wrong to say that we are competitors because both of us are singers. However, I do see him as my inspiration because he is supremely talented. As a singer he is very versatile. He can sing all kinds of songs. I strive to do that as well.
Any particular actor you would love to sing for?
I think I would like to sing for Varun Dhawan and Ranbir Kapoor.
Which are your forthcoming projects?
I have sung a couple of songs for Salim-Sulaiman and they should be out soon. I can’t reveal much about them.
